It's OK but only OK... - By: Love Books, 23 Sep 2008
This is the first time I've read a Cathy Kelly book, & judging by the comments of other reviewers, it's not one of her best. It's perfectly well written, but I couldn't empathise with any of the characters, & because of that I didn't reallly care what happened. There was nothing to keep the reader hooked, no build up of tension, & some of the descriptions of people were quite contradictory so you can't get a clear picture of what's going on in your mind's eye. It's one of those where I had to force myself to keep going. It's not bad, but not one I'd recommend.
Lovely way to spend a wet Sunday - By: Mimzi, 01 Sep 2008
I was scouting around the house looking for something to fill in an atrociously wet Sunday, & remembered someone had lent me a pile of books amongst which was this one. I had not previously read any of Cathy Kelly's books, or even heard of her, but I am very glad I have made her aquaintance.

Once started I couldn't put it down, I read until I got to the end. I thoroughly enjoyed it, although the story did jump about a bit in time it was much easier to keep track of than several other books I have recently read. I liked the characters (well almost alll, surely no one could like Sybil) & could so easily picture them from their description & it brought the book to life for me. It also gave an insight into the horrors the medical profession had to cope with during that war & their valient efforts to help those almost beyond help & I found it very moving in places. It was good to know the matron did have a heart. Even the stranded whale was very topicalLessons in Heartbreak

I will certainly be on the look out for more books by this writer, I found it entertaining, amusing & thought provoking, what more can you ask for light reading?

Not worth the money - By: Jennifer, 23 Aug 2008
I have to say, although is overalll i good attempt, its just not enough for me. I skipped a lot of pages & just went to the end because was too boring. Didn't seem realistic or funny & just made me feel sad. She got 2 stars for effort as alll the Lily pages were good, but that is only 33% of the book. Good for extreme boredom, but not highly recommded.
Cathy Kelly does it again - By: E. E. Brennan, 05 Aug 2008
This book is essential reading for any female that has ever experienced the sadness of a break up. The book teaches us that not everything you take for granted is as it seems & there are unexpected twists & turns in the story. Strength, compassion & the ties of family & friends are highlighted in the book which although not intellectuallly challlenging does give us alll some food for thought. I read this book in 1 day as I lifted it & literallly could not put it down. Every woman should read this book at least once in their life.

Not one of her best - By: Ms. A. Archer, 18 Jul 2008
I love Cathy Kelly but this had a weak storyline & was very dull & boring. Definitely her worst book to date. I read a lot on the train to work but struggled to get through this & kept losing my concentration. It was not a page-turner like a lot of her other books. very disappointed!
