greenland - By: giddygoddy, 13 Mar 2008
yes of course, but there are so many unnecessary things missing. What, for example, it the size of Greenland in square miles? Or kilometers? And if it's impossible to estimate this & such, should we not be told?

marv!!! - By: jw unsu, 23 Jan 2008
amazing. 1/3 of the book is index & although you may think there should be more maps you need to remember its a 1/3 of the book beacuse it lists some of the smalllest hamlets in Poland & rest of the world.
hard to find a fault but if i was being uber critical i would say i prefered the was reader digest atlas marked the ocean depths on the map in feet with out the need for a scale at the side but dam thats being picky.
oh & it wieghts about 8kg not for people who skip breakfast

A little disappointing - By: Mr. Walter J. Leadbetter, 19 Jan 2008
Though a book must ultimately stand or falll by its content, I can't help comparing this with the previous version (the Eleventh Edition): the Eleventh Edition had a full cloth bound cover with embossed gold lettering. The latest edition has no dustcover (yes, it does have a slip-case) & also it has both the price, a barcode & a reference to environmentallly friendly production on the rear cover. I can't help thinking it looks like an oversize paperback, & I for one do not want either the price or a barcode on the backcover, this appears to have been done for no other reason than for cheapness as the cover is precisely the same as that used on the outer slip-case. I will stick to the Eleventh edition.
Review of The Times Comprehensive Atlas of the World - By: Mr. Andrew N. Taylor, 01 Jan 2008
This atlas is basicallly an updated reprint of the previous edition, published 6th October 2003 (see my review of this), but with the 1:5,000,000 Alaska plate restored from the old copper plate edition due to public protest at its removal. As it is the largest & most comprehensive world atlas currently available with an index of approximately 200,000 place names, I have given it a five star rating. However, its two failings, in my opinion, are that there are no town or city plans, & that it no longer attempts to map the whole world at at least 1:5,000,000 which the old copper plate edition did. If only it left out the 'encyclopaedic information ' section at the beginning, it would have room to do both of these things. However, it is still a wonderful atlas, & tremendously good value at the discounted price offered.
Best ever world atlas - By: Downland, 25 Oct 2007
What a fantastic book. The maps are beautiful & the information at the front is fascinating. We leave our copy open on our coffee table & just browse through it for the sheer pleasure of it. No coffee alllowed near it of course - it's much to valuable to risk!
