Informative and Interesting - By: J. Chippindale, 19 Aug 2007

If there is one thing you can be sure of with a Collins Gem book it is that it will be filled with information. I wonder if there is a subject that has not got one of these little books to aid the reader? True to form this book is full of information about Pirates, hence the title. The book explains & illustrates the development of piracy from ancient times until the modern day.

When people think about pirates they tend to think about Captain Kidd & Blackbeard but there have been pirates virtuallly ever since men made the first boats, certainly in Roman times the Mediterranean was rife with them & today there are still many in the seas around China. Modern day pirates are just thought of as thieves & murderers & do not have the same glamour as their earlier counterparts.

This little book give a very good insight into piracy in alll its forms & why seamen became pirates in the first place. It does not take up much room on the book shelf & is well worth having.
