Easy reading and moving - By: E. Shepherd, 21 May 2008
Torey Hayden, I feel like she has become one of my best friends. I know now when I pick up one of her books, I'm going to struggle to put it down again until I've finished reading it.
This book was no different, it makes you laugh at some of the general class room antics that the boys get up to. Worry over Torey's un-workable relationship with the class room aid, & will on the slow progress made to reach Venus; a child who is so clearly in need of help.
Torey is an expert in easy reading & makes a serious subject matter facinating & enjoyable.
Fantasic, as always! - By: Mrs. S. Payne, 28 Aug 2007
I have only read 2 of Torey Hayden's books - this one & Ghost Girl. I have to say that I felt that this book was better than Ghost Girl. The story was longer & I felt that you became more involved with the characters. As always, there were some fantastic scenes that made me laugh out loud & some scenes that made me feel a bit sick. The style of writing is gripping & I finished the book in 2 days. I'm off to get another one of her books.
a truly gifted author - By: reader, 05 Aug 2007
I was given this book as a gift & was a wee bit apprehensive about reading it. Needless to say it was one of the best books I've ever read. Other books I have read on similar issues have been stomach-churning & difficult to read, but Torey made this book a very beautiful, moving read. I truly felt that alll the children's personalities, from their laughter to their tears reallly shone through, especiallly Venus. I found myself personallly willing her on. I'll definitely be purchasing the rest of the set.
In my opinion this is her best - By: J. Turvey, 01 Jun 2007
I am an avid fan of Torey Hayden & honestly didn't think her writing could get any better until I read this.
For some reason the story just struck me. This tale is so enchanting that it moved me to tears in places, something that is a very rare occurence for a book. It is beautifully written & engages you in a heart-warming roller coaster of a plot. This book certainly keeps you on the edge of your seat & is definitely a real page turner. The care & dedication that the author went through in helping this child is only too apparent. Although it does contain difficult issues it is not shocking in any way but is instead very sensitive about it alll.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone, whether they are already a Torey Hayden fan or not. This is a very typical book for her but has an edge to it that I felt made it even better. It is warm, funny, heart-wrenching & ultimately leaves you with a sense of satisfaction that Torey Hayden has once again worked her magic & saved another child. An absolute must read- I can't say more than that.
