The start of something amazing - By: ...?, 30 Sep 2008
Definately not the best in the series but still, brilliant book.
Although it doesn't establish an extemely strong connection between Grubbs & his family it just seems to make it alll the more shocking in chapter 2. From there the book builds up with more & more mystery until the explosive finale, I would say the Demonata series is definately better than The Saga. So yeah 5/5 Awesomes
great horror series - By: Red, 29 Aug 2008
From the first moment in book one, Lord Loss, when Grubbs Grady encounters the Demonata & their evil minions it is obvious to the reader that Darren Shan books are from a different dimension. You reallly have to read them with an open mind, & a slightly twisted one too! The heroes are constantly changing, from Grubbs in book one to Kernel Fleck in book two, back to Grubbs in three & then Bec in some of the later episodes. Whoever is in charge you can absolutely guarantee a frightening ride through another world, which Shan depicts so very well. As far as teenage horror goes this is about as entertaining as it gets. You cannot compare it to the real horror masters, such as James Herbert, Shaun Hutson, Brian Keene or Conrad Jones, but they are truly entertaining, even though the storylines are flimsy to say the least, they are still excellent reading.
gory! - By: Mr. Matthew West, 21 Aug 2008
I brought this book, because the cover looked reallly nasty, but it looked like a regular horror book. I found it very hard to put down, the start was a bit normal, however, when you start to unravel things, you start to imagine that your reallly in the book, which is why its hard to put down. If you dont mind being slightly scared & you want an excellent read, buy this book!, after this book, darren shan has many other titles.
Really good book! - By: D. J. Sam, 02 Aug 2008
I first started out, not reallly doing much reading. I did think it was quite boring, then my mum encouraged me to start reading. So i just thought, to get her off my back, ill just read a book. I had this book 2 & a half years ago, not reading it. Im 16, & i used to do a lot of gaming.

I first picked up this book, but boy i got hooked in to it. The book works great in explaining what happens, the twists & turns that you don't expect. At first you don't have any idea about the front of the book, with chess pieces. A horror book, with chess? But i'm telling you, read the first fewe pages & you won't put it down.

I finished the book in a week, & loved every minute of it. It has brought me into reading again, & is quite a scary book. I remember, at night after reading this book, i dont get scared easily by books/movies. But those nights, i did get slightly scared (slightly) but not too much to close my eyes. That night, i heard noises aswell around me, which added to the atmosphere.

If you are looking for a great horror book, that would give you quite a shiver, then pick this up & you will have a blast!
