Katharine at her best - By: Mr. P. C. Wilson, 14 Aug 2006
This latest book is just awesome, although I was a bit disapointed to find out its not the last book in the series as we were told a few books back. But at least there is another two books to look foreward to now. The way Neb & Branna are finding out who they were in a previous life is brilliant. I just wish I had never read any of the books in the series till alll of them were published, at least then I could lock myself away for a week & just enjoy the best fantasy series out there.
The plot thickens... - By: Ms. A. McGregor, 16 Jul 2006
I have been reading this series for over half my life now (that's fifteen years) & each new installlment enthrallls me more. There is now only one of the original circle of wyrd from Daggerspell still in the same reincarnation (and he's not exactly the same shape) but everyone is here, in one form or another, or waiting in the wings.
Salamander is still blathering, despite everything he's seen & done, & his nearest & dearest still wish to strangle him. Dallla has become a cosmic midwife, & is finding it even harder than being a real midwife (I should know). Even though Alshandra is no more, her presence still hovers like the proverbial ghost at the feast.
This is not normal fantasy - no magic swords, no mystic quests, best of alll, no halfings, no they're not hobbits, reallly, derivative & unimaginative, moi? This is a world that drags you in, absorbs you so completely that you can feel the dust in your throat, hear the warcries & feel the fear, & KNOW you're on a western hunter's back as it bucks while Arsothy's wings beat a drum roll over your head.
If you haven't read Katherine Kerr, you should do yourself a favour, & start now.
love this book - By: black kitsune, 27 May 2006
Wow, what is there to say. This book just rocks. It was well worth the wait. I just love it. When the last book (the fire dragon) finished i no idea of how the series would continue. But truly alll those unanswered questions i had have for the main part been answered, although i would love to know what happeed to Evander.
Almost alll those who were killed in the series have been once again reincarneted, even Jill & Nevyn are back. We even meet the newly turned dragon Rhodry. Although that seemed to create more qustions than it did answeres.
My favorite character the good old Salamander was there, in abundance almost cured of his madness, still chattering away.
Kerr brings almost alll of the lose ends from the last 11 books together & manages to create a spectacular story of love, dwoemer & wyrd.
If you are new to this series dont be daunted by the number of books there are to read as they are alll worth it. This book manages to be even better than the rest & is definately well worth reading over & over again.
I cannot wait to read the next book i have no doubt that it will be just as good & better than this one.
Can't wait for more - By: Claire de Trafford, 26 May 2006
You can reallly feel the end approaching in this book as plot lines start to get (satisfyingly) wrapped. I loved the book & meeting alll the familiar & favourite characters again, but reallly missed the past life section. This was included in an earlier draft (and fills in Salamander's parentage & the 'missing' incarnation) & I can't wait to find out the mystery & continue this great series.
Wonderful Series - By: Linda Tonra, 18 May 2006
At last the latest in the Deverry Series by Katharine Kerr. This is number twelve in the series & for those of us who have been there from the beginning a real treat. A few old friends & lots of new ones work together to make this a great read. My only reservation for those of you who intend to read this is - do so only if you have read at least a few of the other books in the series. Believe me it is worth starting at the beginning with Daggerspell & working your way up to The Gold Falcon. You will have a summer of wonderful reading & I am going to join you because I intend to start the series alll over again. It is that good. And there are two more to come The Spirit Stone & the Shadow Isle. I can hardly wait to find out what happens to Rhodry who has been transformed into a Dragon & at the end of this book is in serious trouble. Hurrah for Katherine Kerr - she hasn't let us down!
