Dull book - By: Lilja, 28 Apr 2008
I wonder why people love this book so much. I found it too silly & dull even for chick-lit standards. Witty dialogue is just stupid, characters are sterotypes or underdeveloped or uninteresting & the book is way too long. It needs serious editing - the art of everyday detail should be left to more skilled writers.
Great read - By: Helen, 21 Jun 2007
Ive read a few of Cathy Kelly books & think this was the best so far. I like how its about 4 woman who have different lives (1 mother & 3 daughers)and different problems but keep coming together & overlapping. The 3 sisters are very close & will do anything to help each other, when they find out that there Mother is not as strong/happy as they thought they come together to help the family.
Its quite a long book but defo worth reading. Its not too girlie but it is an easy reading book & once you start you will enjoy following each storyline. The ending is quite predictable though.
Ive just bought another Cathy Kelly book & Im hoping it is as good.
Only so so - By: SMK, 06 Jun 2005
This could have been a good book but I have to admit, the style was a bit too slow for me. I had to keep telling myself to slow my mind down in order to keep to the pace of the story which turned out to be predictable round almost every bend. The characters however are developed well, brought nicely to life, most are likeable & I looked forward to coming round to a few whenever they cropped up. I was quite surprised how many errors I found in the text though & it got to be a bit irritating as it jolted me out of the fun part of reading & immersion into the story & into editor-mode each time. My first Cathy Kelly book but not too sure I liked it enought to dive out for another.
A really enjoyable book - By: , 03 Jun 2004
I read Cathy Kelly's Never To Late before reading Just Between Us, & although an ok read it did not compete with Just Between Us which I found reallly gripping. I am a great fan of Shelia O'Flanagan, & after completing alll her books, someone suggested Cathy Kelly. Just Between Us definietly competes with some of Shelia O'Flanagan's excellent books, & i found you reallly got to know the real depths of alll the characters in Just Between Us, & their real emotions. I found i would get lost in the book for hours before making myself put it down!
Plane fare - By: Book Freak, 15 Apr 2004
I bought Just Between Us to read on a long plane journey, & it was just right. Other reviewers have summed up the story, & appear to have enjoyed it very much. I think I must be more demanding - I found the story very predictable, the characters irritating & foolish & decided that the book as a whole is like airline food - it fills a space but you cannot regard it as good food. The writing is very sloppy & seems to have been dictation into a recorder rather than writing. On several occasions I found myself unable to understand whole sentences, as they were so badly written. If you want an undemanding read, this may fit the bill, but don't expect too much.
