Typical Barbara Erskine - By: , 15 Jan 2005
Definitely worth a read. If you like her work then this is no disappointment. This is a collection of short stories. If you have read Whispers in the Sand there is a story here which tells you what happened to the characters after that book. I have not found any of her books disappointing, & this just carries on with her success.

Brilliant book once you begin to read it is hard to put down. If u have read any other of her books you will know what I mean.
Unfortunately, not one of BE's best - By: Atheana, 17 Dec 2003
I had my doubts about purchasing this book in the first place, as it was a compilation of short stories, but in the end decided to go for it - based on BE's other successes. Unfortunately, I was right to be somewhat hesitant. Nearly each & every one of these stories centres around the same theme - namely, a house or cottage, a woman who's been cheated on & a broken heart - & a ghost! Ms Erskine is generallly creative in her writing style, however it grieves me to say that with 'Sands of Time' this wasn't the case. The author relies on the same theme throughout in that one short story is pretty much the same as the next insofar as context & theme goes. Perhaps short stories aren't her forte?
A thought-provoking glimpse through the curtain of time. - By: laineyf, 18 Sep 2003
This is Barbara Erskine back to doing what she does best! I have only just bought & read this book, but I know that it will become a favourite. I am fascinated by her ability to twitch the curtain of time aside, & alllow us a glimpse into past times. I
appreciated the wrapping up of 'Whispers in the Sand' as sometimes it is nice to know the eventual outcome. I reallly do find the whole concept of death & time being able to transpose with the present compelling reading. I also find it ultimately very sad. I am always moved by the stories of soldiers from the two world wars finding themselves crossing into the present time. I find it unbearably tragic. I think that this collection of stories & poetry are a must for anyone who likes to wonder about past & present lives, & how they can entwine. I have alll Barbara Erskines' books, so I suppose I am biased when I say that she is a truly wonderful writer, who is able to convey deep meaning in her words. This is a book that I feel would be best appreciated when alone, on a dark night, with a huge mug of tea in front of a cosy fire. It worked for me!!
