A BIG truth told in a few pages - By: The Kinniburgh Kid, 23 Jul 2007
I was, still am, a big fan of the previous book, Illusions. So I was very keen to get this when it was first published decades ago.
I was disappointed. It was short, childish & seemed to have none of the resonance Illusions had for me. It was a bit like Wish You Were Here after Dark Side of the Moon.
Then I grew older, moved away from those I loved, learned the truth about distance making the heart grow fonder & then the book made sense to me. Now I can't read it without crying.
I'll give it to my family when they leave home, hoping they will come to realise the message, so skilfully wrapped in this smalll volume, is more complicated than a book ten times this size could convey.
Puts feelings into words - everyone should read this book - By: Kerry, 05 May 2003
A friend gave me my first copy of this book many years ago shortly before we were to be parted. Yes, I still missed him, but I knew the book was right. It's been my companion through tough times on many occasions through the years. As Richard Bach says "can miles truly separate you from friends? If you want to be with someone you love, aren't you already there?" Short? Yes. Simple? No. Worth buying? Yes!!!!!!!!!!! There's philosophy & truth & so much more that I can't put into words. Everyone should have someone special enough to give this book to.
Does alll that make sense? I hope so. Whatever, just buy it!
Too Simple? - By: kapman, 11 Nov 2002
Looking at the reviews,I was keen to read this book. Unfortunatly I was very disappointed-yes the words are simple, but nothing that is reallly new, no profound thoughts struck me as I read this or afterwards. Sadly I feel this book lives off the reputation of the author, and has been produced by the publishers to generate sales based on this. In alll the book took probably about 4 - 5 minutes (yes minutes!) to read & is definitely NOT something I would recommend buying, rather if you feel compelled to read it, go to a library. Very disappointed.
Part of Life's Inspirations. No Joke. - By: Scotia, 07 Sep 2002
Ok, bear with me here....
My mother sent me this wonderful "book" many years ago, whilst I was living abroad with my then young son.
I wholly understand now, over a decade later why she sent me it. Perhaps because I honestly think of it's "feel" every week, sometimes even daily.
I have given this amazing little book to several treasured friends, (a recommendation in itself).
If you can be a "deep or lateral thinker", or hold friendship close to your heart, this book will be both inspirational & moving to you.
If only the world could search past sexism, racism, bigotry & alll other "isms", as this book can, we could aim for some friendship driven Utopia.
This man, Richard Bach had vision, compassion & deep motivation in this work, read it, enjoy it, & most of alll, teach your kids it, what a wonderful legacy for the future generations.
Ok, Ive waffled enough, buy it, & breathe the sentiment in.
Oh, & Thanks Mum!
Deceptively simple words - - By: , 02 Jul 2000
It is hard for me to understand how anyone can fail to be intrigued by this book. Children can read it, as the words are few & simple; adults can carry away a different way of thinking.
