Great book, awful edition - By: Paul Magnussen, 01 Sep 2007
I agree with the other reviewers: "A Handful of Summers" is the most informative & entertaining book on tennis I've read.
But the 1997 HarperCollins edition is dreadful: the paper quality is poor, & -- most importantly -- alll the photographs are missing. I was so disgusted with it I returned it to Amazon & bought a second-hand copy instead.
The five-star rating is for the writing, not the edition.
Be warned.
brilliantly entertaining review of the old days of tennis - By: , 08 Mar 2002
This is a real laugh a minute account of how life was for the players of a less professional but more friendly & laid back era. You get a real sense of how the tennis scene has changed over the years, I can't imagine Pete Sampras playing the summer grass court events at Felixstowe & Cromer! This is wonderfully written book & is an absolute must for any true tennis fans

Forbes opens up the world of the tennis player & weelcomes the reader in. This amusing, informative & often touching account of life on the circuit is essential reading for any tennis fan.
An extremely funny tale of the world of tennis. - By: , 26 Mar 1999
This book should be read by anyone interested in the world of tennis & has many amusing anecdotes about players of the past, particularly Abe Segal. Lew Hoad, the great Australian tennis player is reputed to have considered it the best book he had ever read about those days.
