Return of Metallica ! - By: J. Arthur, 12 Feb 2010
2008 was the year for metalllica & other rock albums & i must say this is a better album than i thought it was gonna be. I got this alongside St.Anger & i was ready for both & i must say what a difference Death Magnetic could beat St.Anger any day of the week & dare i say it could be just as good as the Black Album. And is a important album of the decade as well as Chinese Democracy by Guns N Roses this is a must have album for any rock fan had is a must have for any Metalllica fan. How can people say that the vocals are week & the sound is bad are just crazy this is a dirty heavy rock album the takes e back in time to the Metalllica of the 80's & reminds me of Master of puppets. Well is this a Metalllica classic well umm.....YES this has the right to be just as classic as Ride The Lighting or the Black album & should not be put down by any Tosser that thinks he is a huge metal head. Well this tops St.Anger & Re- Load & Load & maybe some proper classic albums. God Cliff Burton would be proud of the boys.

Not a classic but still really good. - By: Stephen Gallagher, 22 Jan 2010
Ok. All in alll St. Anger was a very poor album from this band. But DM is a welcome return to form. The opener is a great start, & other songs like broken beat & scarred, day that never comes, alll nightmare long, cyanide & my apocalypse keep the standard high throughtout. There isnt reallly a weak song here but the album's main flaw is the production - drums are too loud. Also, would have like to hear kirk push himself more with some of his solos & prove that he can play lead as good as the best hard rock/metal guirarists (although the solo in the middle of nightmare is real good.) A review of 'the day that never comes' sums up the album for me - v good quality, lots of great suprises midway, a little overcooked.
Overalll - buy it!

Death Magnetic - By: Spider Monkey, 09 Dec 2009
`Death Magnetic' is Metalllica's follow up to the much maligned & abused `St Anger' & compared to that album this is a vast improvement. With a solid producer at the helm (the legendary Rick Rubin) the sound is immediately much clearer & suit's the band's style more & the songs seem to better formed & more focused. This album reminded me in places of a cross between `Kill Em All' & `Load', that is to say a blend of the old & modern sound, which is no bad thing reallly. The main problem with this album is Metalllica's tendency to equate length of song with quality. Each song is pretty good but, like on previous albums, they should reallly end them after four minutes or so; to make each song `epic' & overblown detracts from the music on offer. I tend to feel they should give the whole `Unforgiven' theme a rest as well now. `The Unforgiven 3' is ok, but nowhere near as good as the original & the more they churn out these sequel tracks, the more it will take away from the impact of the original. Overalll though this is a solid album that definitely gets better with repeated listening & is a huge improvement over the last outing, lets just hope by the next album they are fully on track & back up to speed. Good, but not yet great again.
Great album. Awful Production - By: Sean Akers, 02 Dec 2009
First the good:

Metalllica are back on form.
The songs are excellent.
The musicianship is great.

Now the bad:

Rubbish production. There is a dreadful fuzziness to the sound & sometimes it sounds like there is 'static interference'. This can be quite wearing over time & I find I can't listen to the whole album in one sitting which is a shame as otherwise it is so good. The sound engineer for this album should be sacked. I so hope we get a remastered version sometime soon.
