JAMES A 2001 SPACE ODDITY- By: Finbar the looney, 06 Oct 2008 This was recorded in Manchester in late 2001 & has i suspect been issued to tie in with the reformed band current tour. Manchester has only given us three good bands The Verve,Joy Division & James & the audience on the dvd look as though they are relieved to get some good music. All the hits are there of course,"Sit Down" is the epic crowd pleaser,a magnificent"Say something""Space"is still great & this CD?DVD presents excellent value for money. The best bits have been cut from the audio CD- By: Jack Sullivan, 29 Aug 2008 The frustration I feel is unquantifiable, suffice to say, it's a lot. Watch the live DVD & the songs explode off the screen. The piano introduction to sit down feels like a summary of James' life journey, this has been cut. The violin at the end of Johnny Yen is epic, this too has been cut. Many of James' 3 to 4 minute songs stretch into 7 or 8 minute wonders with vast triumphant crescendos. Sadly these have alll been cut from the audio CD. Whichever incompetent buffoon has done this needs to go & have five minutes quite time while they think about what they've done. I imagine when one of the band picks this version up in a shop & listens to it they'll be just as apoplectic as me.
I've rated it five stars for the DVD, which is live music perfection, but please will someone with influence read this & get the audio CD fixed.
