Gemma Ray - new kid on the block - wow!- By: albert mcsquared, 02 Jul 2008 Gemma Ray gives us a refreshingly new sound which has been long overdue. This album has lots of reallly good tracks on it & I will definitely be at her next london based gig. (come on Gemma lets have more of your gigs posted so we can come along) Her style seems to draw on the best of everything we have out there yet it also appears unique & new; her lyrics seem to be reallly powerful & come from somewhere deep within. This bittersweet album covers bases ranging from pop to soul to borderline experimental, without ever losing listenability. Think of old time geniuses such as Dusty & Patsy Cline & then filter that through someone like PJ Harvey & your getting close to describing her eerily magical appeal. Amy's in decline, look no further for her successor.
