Poptastic...!!! - By: S. Haselden, 14 May 2008
This is a very good pop album sung & performed in a manner very alike Sofie Ellis Bextor. There are whole range of voices being used on this recording ranging from the afore mentioned Sofie to Sinead O'Conner. The fact that Gabriella has this range is a true complement to her but, on the whole, the album is alll very predictable.

Good party pop.
A great debut - By: I. H. C. Mellor, 02 May 2008
I first saw Gabriella on 'Later with Jools Holland' & I was very impressed. I bought the album & I am still very impressed. An excellent debut album. The songs are easy to listen to, sung well & the production is spot on. I look forward to hearing more from her in the future.
AMAZING! - By: S. Emmerson, 18 Apr 2008
Amazing! This deserves to be one of the biggest selling albums of 2008. This CD makes you grin. It blazes like your own personal chunk of sunshine. From the instantly likeable `Sweet About Me' through a whole range of brilliantly produced gotta-be-hits, `Lessons To Be Learned' is almost entirely brilliant.

With lyrics that range from catchy-cute to curiously comical ("There's a caterpillar in my soul"!), performed by that engaging, amazing, unique vocal talent, this collection just makes you keep going back - & you can't help but nudge that volume control higher & higher each time...

Personal favourites after first few hearings - `Don't Want To Go To Bed Now' & `Got No Place To Go'. But this is packed full of gems that might take my `favourite' place the more I listen.

Do yourself a favour - get this album - put Gabriella Cilmi on your i-pod - then lie back alll summer with the volume full blast & put a caterpillar in your soul!

WATCH OUT DUFFY!!!!!!!!! - By: H. Crawford, 15 Apr 2008
Gabriella is absolutely fantastic. Sweet About Me is such a cool song. All that I can say is watch out Duffy, because Gabriella makes you look duff!!!!!!
A promising start - By: IWFIcon, 12 Apr 2008
I can imagine there was great delight in the Radio 2 playlist office when they first heard Sweet About Me; it ticks almost every MOR box you could wish for. Me, well I was more intrigued by the fact that this album was being "overseen" by Xenomania.

And in an essence, their presence is what sets this reallly rather good album apart from the chasing pack. Their eye for a catchy pop tune is undiminished & shines through like a beacon here & the fact that they're serious about pop, but not too-self serious, means that it immediately bypasses the Amy Winehouse clone argument.

Save The Lies might get a little too close to Anastacia for comfort, but it's a cracking start to the album & sets things up very nicely indeed. It's the more uptempo tracks that most grabbed my attention, the best of the bunch being Don't Wanna Go To Bed Now & Cigarettes & Lies, & even the cover version of Echo Beach works well, albeit in a camp way.

It's by no means perfect, perhaps being a little too reliant on balllads for my liking, but there is a definite sense that this could be the start of something special. Of course, Joss Stone seemed like a great talent on the back of her debut, so you'd be wise not to get too excited just yet; but on balance, Cilmi certainly looks as if she could have a bright future ahead of her.
