An incredibly addictive 20 odd minutes - By: Mr. B. P. Jenkins, 20 May 2008
I ask anyone remotely considering purchasing this mini album to part with their cash asap, it reallly is a brilliant example of how genius needn't be overelaborate & self endulgant. Simple sounding, yet I defy most to inspire such emotive feelings without sounding like they're trying too hard; I suppose another example would be the White Stripes. Anyway I highly recommend this & like others I agree that the last track is probably the best, it's been my favourite for the past few listens.
Once again, listen to it a couple of times - By: Mr. P. reardon, 29 Apr 2008
On first listening I was a little disappointed, I was expecting the dizzying heights of 'threshold apprehension' or 'tight black rubber'.
However once again, listen to Franks songs again & they sound beautiful. This man deserves more respect than most, & again it sounds better than most of the dross I've heard released since bluefinger.
On the album check out 'when they come to murder me', it's quality. Besides, & lets re-check, it's an 'EP'. Franks best work was the louder stuff, & this for me is a worthy buy.
(PS for the next album, can we have more 'so hard to make things out'?)
Only wishing.
AMAZING - By: Jens Christensen, 01 Apr 2008
Once again, after the glorious return of Black Francis last year, he comes up with another great album.
7 songs & 20 minutes - that's reallly alll it takes for him to leave a huge impression on the listener. As with 2007s Bluefinger, 7 fingers is a coherent collection of songs, & the digital control on the CD player is best left untouched.
However, if I am forced to pick one song, it must be the last one, "When The Come To Murder Me". Fantastic melody & great lyrics.
Buy this album now & be amazed!
return to form - By: P. B. Williams, 29 Mar 2008
frank blacks post pixies releases have been a little hit & miss, but this is a quality mini album with several possible future classic FB tracks.
"The Sues" - a bonkers little verse riff & crackers vocal morphing into a delicate chorus... good track
"Garbage Heap" - yes the track that could have been from the bossanova sessions. it's a good track
"Half Man" - got that early frank black solo albums feel to it. good track
"I Sent Away" - urgent little punky track.. weakest track on the album in my opinion even with the harmonica solo!
"Seven Fingers" - a little bit of upbeat country but with the usual frank black touch of class. great little song & one of the 2 best tracks on the album
"The Tale of Lonsome Fetter" - good little track this. nice descending riff. sets up nicely...
"When they come to murder me" is a purely awesome song & the best track on here. great verse & strong chorus. this is the sort of simple feeling track that encourages you to write songs yourself, but then breaks your heart when you realise that this kind of quality is hard to match...
i would make it clear here that i'm not the biggest fan of frank blacks "country" albums & prefer his noisy stuff... odd then my fav 2 tracks on here are the more country styled ones... anyone. either buy it or get it from emusic if you do that sort of thing. either way a great cd
FANTASTIC!!! - By: Ms. R. K. Padam, 27 Mar 2008
Absolutely beautiful, rocks like no other album this year, alternately poignant, melodic & kick ass,
Part Pere Ubu, part Beefheart, alll Black Francis. ALL KILLER NO FILLER!
Although only 7 tracks, it's better than anything i've heard this year, literallly sublime.
