Magnum's Best Live Album Yet - By: Boss Of Rock, 28 Feb 2008
Over the years Magnum have released a lot of live albums probably because this is where the band are in their element. This eagerly anticipated double CD (I was at the Glasgow Garage in November when they were recording the tour) delivers BIG STYLE. Although the main focus of the set list is the complete Wings Of Heaven album the first CD with 4 songs from Princess Alice (their best studio album for many years) plus classic tracks such as All England's Eyes & Vigilante the album rocks from start to finish. Bob Catley's vocals are as strong as ever & Tony Clarkin & the rest of the band produce a superb display of musicianship as they always do. It's a travesty that Magnum didn't make the "big time" list of rock bands but like Thunder if they keep playing we'll keep going - it was a privilage to be at the Glasgow gig & this release captures the raw power of Magnum at their peak. Has to be 5 stars & PLAY IT LOUD !!!!!!!!!
These guys just dont rollover!!! - By: Vj Croad, 27 Feb 2008
I like many have followed this band for many years & yes there has been some dissapointing albums, - BUT NOT THIS LIVE OFFERING!!! Its does nearly capture a true magnum concert, its raw & as it should be heard. The early 90s THE SPIRIT LIVE ALBUM was a great overworking on production & therefore lost the adge of a concert. If you remmember the wings of heaven album & enjoyed it, it was nice to hear different worlds live! & the awesome DONT WAKE THE LION , ok as you can see cd2 is gonna be favoured by most, HOWEVER you can here the new classics on disc1 mixed with some old tunes too. I think i agree with another reviewer it would be nice to make way for some other songs from the back catalogue, just for a change. maybe do the b sides of the singles & vigilante album!!

anyway, alll in alll - you wont be dissapointed,

Start Talking LIVE!!! - By: Stotty, 11 Feb 2008
I went to the Birmingham show, which features on this live CD, & I have to say that I was looking forward to this gig more than the 'Storyteller's Night' shows the band did a few years ago.

As for the show, I felt that the first set was a bit too predictable. It's always great to hear the band play 'Vigilante', 'Kingdom Of Madness' & 'How Far Jerusalem' etc, but they seem to play these songs on just about every tour these days. I would have loved to have heard them play 'Back To Earth', 'The Prize', 'Lonely Night' & 'Stormy Weather' for a change, especiallly considering these live dates were supposed to be special.
The second set comprised of 'The Wings Of Heaven' album in it's entirety & was a joy to behold. The band played those particular songs with a harder, darker edge, not to be heard on the original recordings. 'Wild Swan' & 'Don't Wake The Lion' were particularly outstanding.
The individual performances on the night were spot on. Bob Catley gave it everything on vocals & Tony Clarkin's guitarwork seems to get better & better. The rhythm section of Al Barrow & Jimy Copley on bass & drums respectively has to be the heaviest & most technicallly proficient the band has ever had, & Mark Stanway's keyboards gave the whole sound a bit of class.
The venue was packed to the rafters, & the atmosphere was electric. Worth noting was Bob Catley's clear heartbreak when speaking of the plight of original Magnum drummer Kex Gorin, who sadly died recently.
I have to say I'm looking forward to how this live album is going to turn out (as of writing this, it hasn't been released yet) & if the beefy sound on the night transfers to disc effectively.
It was a top gig & a great night, despite the smell of wee.
Now, alll Magnum have to do is play the 'Chase The Dragon' & 'Vigilante' albums in their entirety live & we can alll die happy.
20 Years on and still Flying High - By: Andrew Bailey, 02 Feb 2008
Went to 3 of these live recordings & they are just fantastic, the new tracks are brilliant live & the Wings of heaven performance in the second half of the concert was just amazing. Bob`s voice is as good as it was at the Manchester Apollo 20 years ago & Tony`s guitar work was superb as usualll. Get this CD in its first week of release & lets get them back in the charts where they belong.
