Outstanding - By: Mr. A. Richter, 02 Sep 2008
I only recently got into WT after seeing them support Iron Maiden at Twickenham & this was the first album I bought. It is quite simply brilliant. Comparisoms with Evenescence are unwarrented as WT are in a different league. This album is an excellent place to start but the earlier ones are brilliant as well (especiallly Mother Earth). the music also transcends the generations as alll my 3 teenage boys have become WT fans as well has many of their freinds at school. Buy this album if you have any interest in melodic rock - you won't be disappointed.
GOOD VOCALS, MUSIC IS A LITTLE BIT NU METAL...... - By: Adam Jackson, 09 Aug 2008
This reminds me of Nightwish's last album but in reverse! Here the vocals are excellent & the music a little underwhelming, whereas Dark Passion Play is superb re instrumentation but that Annette lass is dire.
What reallly strikes me is that no instrument ever stands out; the guitar & bass riffs are very simple & almost sound synthetic, the drums stay at the same tempo & could easily be programmed, & I've heard more adventurous keyboard work than this. It reminds me of Linkin Park's Hybrid Theory in that it sounds almost like a background to the vocals, & almost machine like, with no outstanding riffs or solos.
At least there is some nice orchestral accompaniment but nothing matching the majesty of Therion or Nightwish.
It's just too lightweight & radio friendly alll round!
I only wish Nightwish could have bagged Sharon Adel for DPP, as this girl is a terrific singer, & wasted on these average tunes.
On the plus side, the production is decent (in a film score kind of way) & the opening track, The Howling is a killer to be fair!
I preferred The Silent Force to this as it was slightly heavier & more symphonic, with better tunes. If you want the heavier female fronted sound, I would reallly recommend Epica's Divine Conspiracy.
why is evanesance like ????????????????? - By: M. F. Holding, 22 May 2008
i have decide to write a review that some think may cause offense but there is muppets out there (someone with a head up there ass!!!!!!! & moving there hands).
As like most people think if they hear/see a review like a well known band they a going to be like that band.
In many cases evanescence is like within temptation /lacuna coil /after forever /paramore & others just to name a few the only things these bands have in common is 2 things
1 They are in the music business
2 They are fronted by a female singer
and that is the only thing they have in common
One Word - Breathtaking - By: GothicPrincess, 05 Apr 2008
I personallly love every album & single Within Temptation has ever released. None of their songs have ever disappointed me or been below my expectations of them. This album was the first I heard of Within Temptation's & every single song on this album is absolutely stunning. I wouldn't skip a track on this album, I enjoyed each & every one.
One thing I do not understand is the customers who seem to think Evanescence have a similar sound... they do not at alll. Within Temptation is a far better band, although Amy Lee's vocals are powerful, Sharon's are far better.
But this album is something else, I'd definitely recommend you buy this, & look at alll of the other albums by Within Temptation, because they make truly beautiful music.
Best group I had never heard of! - By: roydoncrossing, 26 Mar 2008
Had never heard of WT until recently when I saw a video which used as a backing on a BTV video-was bowled over & ordered up the CD. Brilliant-
Version I have is the limited edition which also includes DVD of Japan concert. Good job it is CD/DVD-had it been VHS/Vinyl,I would have worn it out by now, AWESEOME
