A good compilation!! - By: Jake M, 26 May 2008
This 3 CD boxset is crammed full of the greatest hits from the best decade of music --- the 80s!
It makes for a good introduction for anyone who dosen't already own an 80s comp or just for those who want to relive the music.
I wouldn't say that this is the best set to buy on the market, many of the biggest hit singles of the decade haven't been included but alll the same, there's enough good songs by some great artists to keep the customer happy.
Recommened!
Good CD! - By: V. L. Hollamby, 23 Jul 2007
I brought this CD as I wanted to listen to 80's music & it seemed like a good choice.
I think the CD is great & although there could've been some different 80's songs I would recommened this CD!
Only 100 eightes songs - By: J. Stott, 18 Jun 2007
I bought this album as I am a big fan of eighties music, & already have a large selection from that era but this CD still contains tracks I didn't have.
My gripes about the disc are:
There are only 100 80's tracks as Go West's King of Wishful Thinking is from 1990.
Some of the tracks have been edited to fit alll the songs on, 19 by Paul Hardcastle has had about 10 seconds edited out near the end, I suppose though if I didn't have that track from several other 80's compilations including the Fantastic 80's series I might not have noticed.
The Stranglers Golden Brown is also some 20 seconds shorter as well, just to mention two tracks there are more though.
As a compilation though bar the editing & the sooner than normal fade outs, it is a good album. I wouldn't have put so many tracks on from the same artists though i.e. 3 tracks from Madness & also 3 from The Specials.
The problem of course when compiling 80's compilations is that there are so many good tracks, it's reallly a case of what to leave off rather than what to put on.
My final complaint is that there are more than 20 tracks which also appear on the previously released 80's School Reunion album (which I also have) which is from the same record label, it would have been nice to have a different selection of tracks to avoid so much duplication, I did know this before I bought it though, but there were enough tracks I didn't have.
If you are a fan of eighties music though, I would still recommend you purchase this album.
An 80's music party - By: P. DATTA, 02 May 2007
The 101 80's hits richly treats listeners with a wide selection of memorable & timeless classics during the decade. 80's music by far my favourite music decade, as I view as music filled with particular qualities that strongly appeal to me. The main quality is classed as feel good music. It is music that instills happiness & confidence within yourself. 80's music is perfect choice & reallly matches the mood for a party setting & to reallly dance to.
The set includes five discs comprising a large section of hits during the decade. The music ranges from Madness, Duran Duran, Blondie, Dexy Mignight Runner, Culture Club, Talk Talk, Specials, UB40 & heaps more. It feel though the choice is endless.
101 80's hits overlaps with previous complitations. That is one of drawbacks, but offers a real treat for 80's music fans. The 80's decade can be relieved & is a perfect opportunity to treasure your fond memories of the decade by listening to some of the tracks featured in the album. The album is a great value for money for what it offers, along you do not have the same tracks.
' A Great Value Set' - By: Antony May, 09 Apr 2007
Containing so many songs, this is without doubt a very good value buy. If you loved the 80's then there are sure to be a plethora of your particular favourites here. The only snag for me with this collection being that, as a big 80's fan, I have most of these tracks multiple times over on other compilations. It's a pity there are no minor 80's hits on this collection to 'freshen up the tried & tested tracks & evoke memories of the era once again' either. I'm sure a lot of people out there would love a decent compilation like this that also included some rather less obvious selections by some of the acts to give them something reallly special to buy this for. Stuff like 'Space Age Lovesong' by A Flock Of Seagulls or 'Europe After The Rain' by John Foxx are not unobtainable on CD but never seem to crop up on these kind of compilations. Seeing as an 80's no 40 hit probably out sold a noughties number one, a lot of the tracks that didn't hit the top ten in those days were still extremely popular & it would be nice to have them in amongst the obvious stuff once in a while. This said I'm sure a lot of people will be over the moon with this collection & I must admit it is difficult to ever tire of hearing such classics as 'Vienna' by Ultravox, 'Ashes To Ashes' by Bowie & era defining records like 'Baggy Trousers' by Madness...aaahhh those nutty boys eh?
