A Melancholic Masterpiece - By: David Calcano, 08 Dec 2007
What a fabulous album... I'm truly speechless by the melancholy of this record, it is just perfect. The songs take you into a deep pain, the arrangements are amazing. Listen the string parts in 'Violet' along with the suffering of Kelly's voice through the words & sad melodies the songs (listen to Jayne!)... this record urges you to get a glass of good whiskey, turn off the lights & ...
This album is true reflection of the great talent Kelly Jones has as a songwriter & above alll how melodic he can be throughout the songs, it feels real & in your face, showing that you don't need over the top production to create great songs... don't miss this album.
Let the music play!
Apt title - By: Nicholas F. Holliday, 13 Sep 2007
Only the Names Have Been Changed is indeed an apt title for this CD: the first track, "Suzy" is excellent; Moody, lyricallly interesting; A great chillout track. Then track two starts & it sounds, well, identical. Track three? Pretty much the same again. And track four. "Jayne" is on a par with "Suzy" & one of the other tracks changes the pace a bit, but they reallly do sound very similar. There are some string arrangements thrown in for variety, but they don`t reallly work. I like the idea of "one man & his guitar" but the songs reallly need to change a bit to keep the interest up. It seems that Jones` experiences with women have been pretty unpleasant as there is only one vaguely uplifting song on this album. The rest are pretty miserable. On the upside, the CD has a top notch presentation & there`s a performance/Documentry DVD thrown in & to be honest, it`s worth buying for the first track alone.
Amazing - By: Rhindy, 18 Jun 2007

Kelly at his best - By: Shiven, 15 Apr 2007
This album is incredible. Every song is great but the highlights are Jayne, Jean & Summer. I saw him on tour for this in York & he was amazing the album is so good & is a must buy for any phonics fans wanting to hear something a little different.
Breath of Fresh Air - By: M. Tyrrell, 03 Apr 2007
Having put on the radio to hear apparent "fresh" new guitar based bands performing song after song written & produced using the same old blue print, this little number from Kelly Jones is truly a breath of fresh air to fans of this genre.
In the packaging Jones explains that this album was not meant for commercial appeal, & indeed it would be hard to imgine many of the tunes in their current format finding a regular spot on radio 1. However, this only adds to the appeal of the album, & shows Jones' unique understanding of his loyal fan base.
What excites me about this album? The honesty & pure emotion of Jones' vocals & lyrics are the very essence of this record, & provide the listener with a wonderful journey through what is in essence a list of 10 girls who have crossed Jones' path by one way or the other. Don't expect to be bouncing along to any of the chirpy numbers from "Performance & Cocktails" or rock to the heavy guitar sounds to the last two albums (including "Live From Dakota"). Even a track from the live album "Jayne" has been slowed down & adapted to fit into the style of this record, but is done so with great thought & is a triumph.
As a result I have found rating this particular album incredibly difficult. Personallly I find this to be a wonderful collection of 10 great, yet simple tracks. Though the lack of bass or percussion will certainly alienate it from a wider audience.
Selfishly I urge everybody to go out & buy this, perhaps that will show the current hierachy of the record industry that it is the content of the songs & the performer, that far outweighs the production & commercial viability of the music, but in truth if you're looking for something to play whilst unpacking the shopping this isn't the album for you.
