Frustration! Interesting music, bad packaging and poor value- By: R. Seedhouse, 08 Jan 2007 This is not as good as the earlier Soft Cell complitation the "Bedsit Tapes". It is a very short CD, only about 31 mins & that includes the unlisted "Tupperware Party" - which is also, as far as I can tell, the same version that is on the Bedsit Tapes. However there are some nuggets here, there is a a comply different fast arrangement of "My Secret Life" - not as good as the track on "Non Stop Erotic Cabaret" - but it is interesting to hear how the song evolved. There is also a reallly good verson of "Say Hello" with Marc dueting with himself! Of the other titles "Frustration" is from the Mutant Momemnent EP which was stupidly was left off the earlier Bedsit Tapes & "As Advertised". This is a welcome addition to the Soft Cell song cannon I only knew it from a rough live tape of Futurama festival unfortunately it is partly spoilt by poorly recorded vocals (these are Demos afteralll). "Babes in Consumerland" & "When we go marching" arn't the best songs that Marc & Dave ever recorded but its good to hear them. As with Bedsit Tapes the packaging is dreaful with hardly any info on the songs or the band & no picutres except the cover. Unfortunately there is still no release for "Penthouse Pet" or the vocal verson of "Purely funcional" perhaps there is a futher CD in the offing -this would be welcome especiallly if there were some more "work in progress" versions of songs off the first or second albums. I'm glad this CD exists but it is only reallly for obsessive Cellmates.
