A Fantastic Album - By: Lee Middlehurst, 05 Aug 2008
It just amazes me each time I listen to this album. The enormous talent. The versatility. The sheer inventiveness.
It follows a succession of albums that have got better & better. I was so taken aback by Origin of Symmentry & when I saw Muse live I was so speechless at how talented Matthew Bellamy is. But this album.....
It's everything about it. You can hear the orchestral basis for so many of these songs translated into unbelievable howling guitars. The powerful & poignant lyrics. The inventiveness.
See them live when you can & see how amazing this band is. They are incredible.
Awesome! - By: K. J. Collinge, 01 Jul 2008
A friend borrowed the Muse albums to me as he thought they'd be my type of music, I listened to the early albums & decided although they were okay, they weren't reallly inspiring enough for me to buy them for myself. But when I got to Black Holes & Revelations it was quite a different story. This album reawakened something within me for music that had been longing to dance. I absolutely love it, I'm not normallly the type of person to play an album more than once in a row, but this album I can put on repeat & listen to alll day long, literallly! Brrrriiiillliaaaant.....!
average album average band - By: Chris Andronicou, 18 May 2008
Muse are a dumbed down, less talented & less successful version of Radiohead created by their record label, stylists, & PR men to satisfy the markets need for a user friendly, commercial pop-rock band. This was a market gap they filled rather well in their first two albums. A pop rock band, with tunes easy to sing along too, guitar riffs simple enough for fans to learn & loud enough for the head bangers. As muse didn't & where never intended to break any new ground or be innovative, fans could be sure their mates would also like them.
The pretentions of prog rock & musical innovation came later & where largely the product of muses fans desire to feel different & more rebelious. To feel like they where part of something that was changing music in their generation. When your looking for something you usuallly find it whether its there or not, & muses fans started to see them as this progressive rock band with a new & distinct approach to music. Unfortunately Muse never went along with it & carried on making pop rock albums that got them on top of the pops.
Anyone who callls them prog rock is seriously nuts or hasn't heard prog rock before. And take a look at these bone headed lyrics.
Come ride with me
Through the veins of history
I'll show you how god
Fallls asleep on the job
And how can we win
When fools can be kings
Don't waste your time
Or time will waste you
lol - maybe when i was five.
queen - By: Fiona Hanna, 04 May 2008
There is so much Queen in here it makes me laugh (with pleasure), but there's plenty more as well. This band reallly is the best of the current late 90's - 00 crop - in the mainstream anyway. A decent listen & almost 5 stars.
Modern day Rock and Roll. - By: Hugo Rune, 18 Apr 2008
As most reviews have noted this is a great album. I don't wish to add much more but still feel compelled to cast my vote as I love these songs so much; more so, just for my favorite song ; Exo-Politics. There is no finer moment on this album than the chorus of this song. A simple enough riff underlining the song & a fine Queen-esq guitar solo. But this song is alll about getting the simple things right, singing from the heart ... & banging those drums real hard!
I still don't think this album was by no means perfect (in Muse standards anyway) but that only means they can improve, or at worst continue in the same vain.
However I don't think any other band is doing more for music today. Long may they carry on!
PS If you liked this album, please make sure you find a copy of their song "Glorious" which I believe was on the US release. The song not only befit's the album, it would be one of the best. (That good!)
Enjoy, Muse fans.
