a fine CD and DVD - By: Eric M. Gruber, 26 Jun 2006
Listening to James Blunt for the first time, I wasn't sure what to think of this artist. I've listened to many types of musicians during my time & I'll have to be honest it took me only two times to enjoy his music. When The Bedlam Sessions came out, it took no time for me to purchase this item. Watching the DVD of his performance shows how much passion & desire he has for his music. The complete package is great. You get a live recording of a show from Ireland & then a DVD from a show at the BBC. On top of that, several videos of his songs plus an interview. Living in the U.S., it was a great purchase because now I was able to see this great muscian at work. I look forward to his future work & and believe many others will to once this listen to this artist.
Fantastic and great - By: M. Maddock, 08 May 2006
CD & DVD together prove excellent value for money when most CD's cost this much alone! The music is fantastic, I always prefer live recordings as there is much more feeling to the music, as opposed to the highly polished studio versions.
This is remarkable! - By: , 22 Feb 2006
James brings the most refreshing, evocative music that I have heard since the sixties. I thought that maybe I was being too sentimental about it, but I just can't help myself because it is: "Beautiful". Thank you James!
Best in years - By: E. Irving, 20 Feb 2006
A Brilliant DVD. After the CD it blows your mind. Best thing ever to come on the POP scene since the Beatles.

James sings with feeling & Knowledge. You feel you have been through alll he his singing about & been through himself.
Seeing him perform brought a tear to my eye. I bet to many others too. James has more than what it takes, as long as he can follow up & am sure he can.
Best Wishes James & I hope great success.

Marking time - By: S. C. Trump, 20 Feb 2006
First of alll, I'd like to state quite categoricallly that I am a big fan of James Blunt so it is quite hard to write an objective review of this (for me) essential purchase. Having said that I give the album four stars rather than five...

The first disc is a DVD recording of an excellent set recorded for the BBC. When I saw the broadcast, there were interviews with James between the songs which are mercifully absent here so you get the whole show uninterrupted complete with tracks that were not originallly broadcast. The songs are great reproductions of the now famous album tracks complete with orchestral accompaniment on some songs & some nice guitar & keyboard licks spacing out songs such as 'So long Jimmy'. Highlights for me are undoubtably 'High', 'Tears & rain', 'Goodbye my lover' & 'You're beautiful'.

Also on disc one are alll the videos for the single releases plus some short films showing the making of & some interviews. There are two videos for 'High' of which I prefer the first, shot on Tenerife near Mount Teide featuring James buried in the sand up to his head with some surreal characters appearing. The video for 'You're beautiful' where James jumps into the water from a great height is a classic understated, but dramatic interpretation of a definitive song for the year 2005.

Disc two features an audio concert recorded in Ireland & it's here that the set disappoints a little. Some of the songs are given a stripped down treatment such as 'High' & 'Tears & rain' & for me lack the power of the originals or the versions featured on the BBC DVD on Disc one. Plus points are tracks not on the 'Back to Bedlam' album but previously released as b-sides. These are 'Sugar coated', 'Falll at your feet' & the tremendous finale 'Where is my mind ?' with its Coldplay like chorus. This song provides a fitting climax to the show & is also on the live DVD.

The packaging is adequate without being spectacular & I think in summary the release was an inevitable outcome following the huge success of 'Back to Bedlam' & 'You're beautiful' & will satisfy most fans clamouring for more product from James Blunt in the space before the inevitable follow up album. So load disc one into your DVD player, crank up the volume & enjoy a flawless performance of some great songs.
