German Rock/Pop? Yes Please! - By: N. Pluck, 02 Jul 2008
I was first formallly introduced to Tokio Hotel by my German exchange partner, last year. I say formallly because being a language student (German, of course) you do tend to get an understanding of popular bands & music in the country of your language quite early on, & I'd heard a few of their songs before (Spring Nicht was the first, & it's still my favourite). I don't yet own this album - I'm working out which way is cheapest to get it, take a trip to Germany or stump up £20 off of Amazon - but I've heard many of the songs because of Youtube & the aforementioned exchange partner. From what I've heard, it's definatly my kind of thing. For tasters, try out 'Schrei', the title track. It's a brilliant song!
Don't let the German put you off if you can't speak it/aren't learning it, I am starting to try & translate them myself for personal enjoyment but you can easily listen to them without it. It's not overwhelming so definatly try it, maybe buy one of the singles if you're worried about not being able to understand it. You don't reallly need to understand it, just listen to the music!
Just a word of advice - If you're umming & ahhing between this & the English version, don't bother with the English one. The translation isn't worth the money & the songs just sound *wrong*. Hats off to them for giving it a go, but they should stick to the German!
Fantabulous! - By: Mrs. J. Farrow, 01 Jun 2007
What can I say?
This band certainly gets my attention with their rumbuctious, outspoken attitude.
I love how defined they alll are.
...and they are brilliant if you are planning on picking up German as a language - great for any language-fanatic, like myself.
One thing, you can take the word of the negative review if you want but that would make you a fool. (See his/her other reviews, mostly negative, personallly I think someones looking for a fight...or a severe disagreement). I just hope one day some walks up to him/her & shouts "Schrei so laut du kannst" in their ear. (Quite the cliché)
Epeciallly taking a word of exaggeration saying no talent at alll.
They must have some talent, even though you may not think they have musical talent, they have it somewhere else.
Quite frankly I think Bill Kaulitz is one good, strong singer & Tom wows me always with his riffs.
Schrei so laut du kannst: fresh, confident rock sound! - By: S. Duncan, 06 May 2007
I first listened to Tokio Hotel thanks to a friend passing me over their ipod & saying, 'listen to this'. Very shortly after that, I was buying this album & their next, 'Zimmer 483'.
It's great that amazon.co.uk is now stocking this item.
Don't be put off by this album being in German: quite frankly, the quality & expression of the music made me forget that I had to go translate the lyrics for myself later. If you like My Chemical Romance, or Evanescence, you'll love these guys.
Tokio Hotel defy age statements, they are young, but their rock sound is fresh & confident due to years of performing together: they are veterans. 'Schrei so laut du kannst' (I'm going by the album cover here, since there is no track listing yet, & Amazon have confusingly just callled this Schrei) is a re-recording of the original 'Schrei' album (also stocked by Amazon), reworking some of the songs after Bill, the lead singer's voice broke.
If you buy one Tokio Hotel album, buy 'Zimmer 483' (hopefully Amazon.co.uk will start stocking that soon as well), if you want more, 'Schrei so laut du kannst' comes a close second, & just wait for their English language album, 'Scream'.
