An absolute fab collection of songs with immaculate sound - By: , 24 Mar 2005
I bought this dvd as Im a huge Genesis fan & thought that it would be more than worth owning some of their greatest tracks on dvd such as: Invisible Touch, Follow you, follow me, Turn it on again. Basicallly what this dvd did for me was make me realize how many other great songs that Genesis fans will be less familiar with. The sound is nothing but superb & is a never grow old of dvd. I also own The Way we Walk dvd which slightly dissapointed me soundwise,I would seriously recommend any Genesis fan to purchase this as it is unmissable.
Too much new stuff.... - By: Torstein Gjerlow, 21 Feb 2005
Following Genesis since almost the very beginning it is sad if this video (as is said about the "platinum collection" on CD that has just been released, & which resembles this DVD quite much) is ment to be a kind of "best of" - album. There is too much new stuff on this album to represent Genesis in a fair way (possibly I shouldn't blame Genesis, from the interview of Phil Collins on the cover it seems he was not aware of that this video even was made...). Sadly, practicallly alll of the older, superb works that reallly were original & new-creating (i.e. before the album "...and then there were three") are missing, & the video instead presents some of the newest songs ("Congo", "Not about us") with a band that after my opinion is not entitled to calll themselves "Genesis" (just two of the original staff left). But I suppose it is difficult to make modern videos of songs from the late sixties/early seventies(?). Sadly Genesis changed to a "traditional pop/rock band" through the years, & if you only have heard late Genesis try out "The lamb lies down on broadway", "Nursery Chyme", "Foxtrot", "Wind & Wuthering" or "A trick of the Tail" - & get the experience of the original band. It demands listening to the CD's more that just once, but after two og three times, you will love it.
Yes, like this! - By: Deckard, 11 Jan 2005
Already had much of this on video, but the temptation of 5.1 DTS sound was too much, & yes the sound is indeed the strength of this DVD. Just listen to FYFM & marvel in the clarity. The video quality isn't bad either - to clarify I mean image quality, some of the content is very cringe-worthy! But it's great to see the boys in alll their stages since the mid 70's. & was that the Liverpool Empire in the Duchess video...? I was there!!
Essential kit for us old Genesis fans - By: WHITLAM, 13 Dec 2004
Inevitably this collection hardly involves Gabriel, though there is a marvellous 1999 version of Carpet Crawlers at the end, almost as 'lip service' to the master.
The rest is pure post-Gabriel stuff but fun to see. As video emerged from the swamp to become the art-form it is today, these Genesis videos show everything, from the brilliant to the completely dire; there are no depths which Collins will not plumb; just watch Illegal Alien & try not to cringe!! But it's good harmless fun and, as a catalogue of the output of the best band ever, you realise why they made great albums rather than great pop singles. What makes the DVD great is the quality of the sound rather than the pictures; the DTS & 5.1 are extremely well done and, if you get sick of watching, just switch your screen off & get on with reading your paper or doing your tax return!
