Lacklustre Singles Boxes - By: G. V. Best, 15 Feb 2004
I have been an Elvis Costello fan since 1977 & have most of the original singles on vinyl.
So I thought this would be a great opportunity to upgrade my collection.
There is nothing wrong with the music, still the same old literal angst but with better sound quality.
The quality of the presentation lets it down badly, no Stiff or F Beat labels just a generic Edsel design the same colour on every disc.
The original black & white sleeves have only been scanned, or possibly even copied from an online discography showing the badly worn condition of the records used.
Surely they should still have the original artwork, or at least could have sourced mint condition singles to copy.
No excuses because they have not even attempted to clean up the covers, which could easily be done with a basic photo program.
Costello fans will want these sets because they include some b sides & remixes which have not been featured on the recent album reissues.
I would have thought the US remix of Alison should also have been included?
When people are expected to pay over £70 for three volumes of substandard product it is time to complain.
Singles Collections 1-3 a Costello fan MUST-HAVE - By: , 09 Nov 2003
I bought alll three collections not knowing what to expect. I kept expecting them to be cancelled & never released. What a great surprise when the three box sets showed up on my doorstep. The discs come housed in reproductions of the sleeves originallly used. The great thing is they include not only songs from the 45s, but songs from the 12"singles. People complaining about certain remixes being left off the latest Costello 2CD reissues will LOVE these box sets. The closest comparison is the Beatles EP box set. Same type of box housing the 12 CDs in each set. I can't recommend these 3 box sets enough
