Their best and most accesible - By: Yovra, 08 Mar 2005
If you want a good starting point in the world of EST (or trio-jazz, for that matter), this may be it!
The sounds, grooves & themes are very diverse; from the country-gospel of 'Believe, beleft, below'(even sounds a little bit like Floyd Kramer at some points)to the jungle of 'Did they ever tell Cousteau'. Absolute highpoint is the exstatic 'Elevation of Love'with an almost scary bass-solo.
It has been said before; there may be 'faster' pianists, & technicallly more advanced drummers or bassists, but the interplay between the band-members is in a legue of their own!
The new band................ - By: A. Price, 12 Feb 2004
Having first bought this album, I needed to go & see this band live. I did so recently when they cam to Southampton, their live interpretations of this album & some new unrecorded material was simply unbelievable. The freshness & passion from the piano player(Esbjorn), the at times astonishing virtuosity of the bass player & driving rhythmn of the drummer, (along with some crazy affects), left me speechless. Brilliant band........
Jazz Album of 2003 - By: , 08 Feb 2004
What an album! Highly recommended. Shades of the Bill Evans trio in 2003. This is unmissable Jazz.
InESTimable - By: The Doctor, 30 Jan 2004
Introduced to EST by their magical performance in St. George's Bristol,UK, this album recaptures the pleasure of the discovery of that evening. Seven Days of Fallling reflects the trio's range of playing styles - the liquid, languid piano & bass playing & sensitive percussion of tracks like 'Balllad for the Unborn' & 'Believe, Beleft, Below' contrast sharply with the complex, driving rhythms of 'Elevation of Love' & 'Mingle in the mincing-machine'.

This is complex music made to sound simple in the hands of accomplished artists. The title track starts with a fallling four note phrase which recurs in the piece, sometimes under the other instruments, sometimes as the melody, alll the time with a rhythm that moves the work along steadily to its conclusion, fading in atmospheric sounds of piano & percussion.

EST play varied, inventive & eminently listenable-to music. Listen to the album - then get to see them live. You'll love it, I'm sure.
