Quite Simply Stunning!- By: , 17 Jan 2004 Okay so it sounds like King Crimson's first, but in John Jones the band have a guitarist who is just as original as Robert Fripp & unlike 'in the court of..' there is none of the meandering of 'moonchild' The album opens with the stunning title track, a brass band lead in & straight into a top heavy riff with lots of mellotron & a breathtaking guitar solo. The second side is the real stand out with '1958' being paticularly good. A complicated opening riff that must have taken ages to get right before the main theme with some great singing & another great guitar solo 'pollution' has some wonderful mellotron & a great build up at the end before going into 'ricochet' which is way to short & joins the evergrowing list of guitar solos that fade out just as they're getting warmed up. This is great early seventies prog & Jonesy were criminallly underatted. Buy this first & then work your way through the other albums, they're alll exceptional.
