A computer game soundtrack album puts Oldfield back on track. - By: Lee Thomas, 13 Apr 2008
After the somewhat disappointing Millennium Bell album, Mike improves things for Tr3s Lunas.
This album features 13 (excluding a radio edit bonus track) individual pieces of music.
The music goes back to a 'Songs Of Distant Earth' feel, albiet slightly inferior to that album.
Although most tracks here are soundtrack material to his Tr3s Lunas computer game, I would say they're a lot more satisfying than some of the tunes on 'The Millennium Bell.'
The atmosphere on this album seems darker also, & less gimmocky, 'celebration' type stuff.
There was more time spent on this album too, about 2 years as opposed to the 6 or so months on the previous one. Giving it a less rushed, more developed feel.
I think the Millennium buzz effected everyone. Even though it actuallly wasn't until the end of year 2000!!
Overalll, a better effort.
A watered down 'Songs Of Distant Earth' does more for me than 'The Millennium Bell.'
So 4 stars for this one.
Hello Houston Mike has a problem...... - By: Mr. J. Hulme, 03 May 2007
Mike Oldfield is threading water with this. Waiting for an idea, even the more listenable track Landfalll: is shoddy to his normal high standard of music.
To be free: sounds like a left over from The Millennium Bell.
Firefly: has no interesting thing about it, pass me that swotter.
TresLunas: Second rate tune that goes nowhere. The odd whisper doesn't help.
Daydream: is it a Les Dawson inspired tune?
And these are just some of the joys awaiting you. Luckily I waited for a sale before I purchased this, still expensive for what it is. Why 3 stars, because it's Mike Oldfield & even if it is something not that special by the master, it is better then the average ok album. I will play it from time to time to see if my opinion changes?
Word of advice Mike, keep out of the sun more.
Tres Lunas - traditional Mike Oldfield sound - By: , 02 Mar 2004
A superb album. All tracks are very different but with that Oldfield individuality. His sister Sallly sings the vocals on To Be Free & the results are very much in line with previous vocalists used by Mike on other albums. A great album for anyone's collection as it is easy listening, whether you are familiar with his work or not. Highly recommended by a long term Oldfield fan!
Sounds from distant talent - By: Arthur Dooley, 23 Feb 2004
Mike Oldfield retains an infuriating ability to tease his devotees with hints at former glories but continues to blend lazy refrains & licks with predictable soul-less production values.
The single 'To be free' offers sub 'Discovery-esque vocals & and an almost Brotherhood of Man chorus line.
'Songs from distant earths' proved that Mike can still knock out a classic five star album but 'Tres Lunas' is lazy rather than laid back.
'Mike's chill out album' ? No quite...more salon muzak I'm afraid !
Another masterpiece - By: , 01 Oct 2003
Tres Lunas is Mike oldfield at his etherial best. Like smoke, there are times when the layers merge & become one, at other times the layers each hold a fascination. The ultimate chill out album.
If you liked any of Mike previous stuff, then I think you'll like this.
As for the game, on the other hand, I have yet to see it work successfully on anything. Personallly, I'm not fussed about this - I was only reallly interested in the music.
