you want 'alternative' - this is it! - By: sophiea84@aol.com, 17 Apr 2002
A diverse debut album from the male & female combo, telling life like it reallly is. You have a sense that these lyrics were written down off of the top of their heads. Yet the fantastic, simplistic lyrics, mixed with the relaxing array of musical instruments which are brought in makes it an intense album that you'll find hard not to love. It is 'basic' made, but dont let that put you off, the fact that it was probably recorded in a sound proof garage makes it alll the better. You cant help but to laugh to hear Adam Green & Kimya Dawson having a truly amazing time at making their album, evident from the beginning. The record skips around on various subjects from love lives in 'nothing came out' to crazy burgers in 'these burgers', to 'downloading porn' with a certain davo. Maybe a gybe at the more popular side of the music industry today, it is hard to know whether to take them seriously when a recorder as if being played by a primary school child suddenly intros just when you thought things couldnt get weirder! Instead of thinking its a half-assed attempt at a record just think of it as a new experience, one not to be missed. It demands to be played over & over, leaving you thinking 'when will i be that good?'
