charming cheering stuff - By: DH Dixon, 04 Jun 2008
This is a lovely record. It lasts only 33 minutes but there are 20 songs. The sound from the fities is excellent & the performances couldn't be better. After playing it a few times I started to realize that we had sung many of them as children in the fifties, when French was extremely important in Britain because of its so many wonderful writers, who were very influential over here. I also believe I recognize some of the recordings, especiallly one. We need some information about this singer who is charming & perfect. As Britain turns rotten with Thatcherism I would urge parents of young children to buy this tor the kids.
Beautiful French Songs - By: Northern Linguist, 26 Apr 2008
A great buy for anyone who wants to introduce French to children, & also for anyone who loves traditional, heart-warming French songs.
Only disappointment is that the songs don't come with words. I was intending to teach some of the songs at school so will have to find the lyrics online in order to do this now. Otherwise highly recommended.
Excellent, authentic French nursery rhymes - By: Mark Skidmore, 12 Jan 2008
This CD is a re-release of a 50s record & has been reallly well re-mastered. lots of authentic French nursery rhymes & a few that you will recognise like the FRench version of 'Old macdonald' & 'who's afraid of the big bad wolf?' The tunes are catchy & you pick up more words each time you listen. It shouldn't be too hard to google the song titles so that you have the words for each nursery rhyme. There will be websites that provide an English translation of the best-known songs too, which is always helpful. I also got the 'FREnch playground' CD on the recommendation of the other reviewer, & whilst I like the tunes which are authentic & culturallly diverse (France, Quebec, Maroc etc.)and the words & a translation of each song are provided, which is very helpful, FRench pLayground is definitely a misnommer. French cultural playground would be more accurate as the songs are more folky than nursery rhymes & more for adults than children. I can't imagine any FRench kids singing them in school, whereas they will definitely have learnt lots of the nursery rhymes onthe 'Songs in FRench for children.' This is the one to buy if you want something reasonably simple that you will benefit from more with each listen, & your kids will definitely be singing along soon. It does help if you have some knowledge of FRench yourself, so you can explain the songs to your kids.
Magical 1950`s French music for kids - By: P. Cleary, 30 Oct 2007
This is s reallly lovely little French CD, the songs are in the style of 1950's Disney film scores, they are fun & charming. Much better to listen to these types of CD to absorb some French than spend hundreds on Muzzy. Of course it is great to learn alll that too, but to begin with, just playing french music & singing along has to be one of the best ways to learn French. I would also highly recommend Putumayo 'French Playground' CD - more contemporary than this album but equallly charming, fun & irresistably catchy!
