Completing a great trilogy of easy-listening compilations - By: Peter Durward Harris, 02 Apr 2005
Following the success of Music to watch girls by & More music to watch girls by, this volume contains further classic easy-listening music from the fifties & sixties. This type of music has a significant fan base in Britain as the more recent series of compilations (Memories are made of this) proves.

This collection begins & ends with Tom Jones, though neither of the tracks (What's new pussycat, Help yourself) would have been considered easy listening back in the ties - they were among Tom's rocking hits. Between those two classics, there are plenty of other equallly brilliant tracks.

Apart from Tom Jones, some other great singers here are represented by more than one song - Andy Williams (Spooky, House of bamboo, Speak softly love), Petula Clark (My love, This is my song), Tony Bennett (Shadow of your smile, Stranger in Paradise) , Johnny Mathis (Twelfth of never, Misty) & Dinah Washington (Unforgettable, Mad about the boy).

There are other famous classics here including Volare (Dean Martin), Mack the knife (Bobby Darin), I say a little prayer (Aretha Franklin), Smile (Nat King Cole), Always something there to remind me (Sandie Shaw), God only knows (Beach boys), It's impossible (Perry Como), You're my world (Cilla Black), Secret love (Doris Day), Dream a little dream of me (Mama Cass) & Light my fire (Jose Feliciano).

Of alll the tracks here, Je T'aime moi non plus (Serge Gainsbourg & Jane Birkin) has the most interesting history. Serge originallly recorded I as a duet with Brigitte Bardot but was not alllowed to release that version at the time (it has since been released on CD) so he recorded another version - this time with English-born but French-based Jane Birkin. The BBC banned it but that only served to generate interest in the record, which became a huge hit alll over Europe. It went to number one in Britain & many other countries

I was particularly pleased to find Cherry pink & apple blossom white (Perez Prado), Guantanamera (Sandpipers), Windows of the world (Scott Walker) & A walk in the Black Forest (Horst Jankowski) as I didn't have those tracks elsewhere on CD at the time & alll of them are brilliant.

This is a magnificent compilation of easy listening music from the fifties & sixties. With 43 tracks, it contains more tracks than the first two volumes (38 & 40 tracks respectively) but the quality is the same.

Louise Ollerenshaw thinks this is a great cd. - By: Pete, 27 Jan 2001
I loved it & I don't Know what I would be doing on the weekends without it.I have not yet brought the other two but certainley will be now. It is a very easy listening cd. Buy it!!!
Great stuff, but why no Sinatra? - By: , 06 Jan 2001
This third CD set in the series follows on very nicely from the first two, but contains some songs that are not quite up to 'cult status'. And the biggest question of alll remains unanswered: in alll the three CD issues of this series why are there no songs by the greatest crooner ever - Frank Sinatra (apart from 'Something Stupid' in the second CD issue)? Surely, you would expect golden classics like 'My Way' & 'Strangers in the Night' to have been included!! This makes no sense. I will be hoping that a fourth set in the series will correct this appallling oversight.
Chilled out and laid back - By: , 22 Dec 2000
Very cool laid back Sunday morning/afternoon listening... Not as good in my opinion as the first two, but worth having in your collection!
Just as good as vol 1 and 2! - By: , 22 Nov 2000
I had my doubts about volume 3 as with many sequels. How could there possibly be enough old favourite to fill a third volume & be as good as the first two classic compilations? But I gave it a chance & you definitely should too. The easy listening tracks float one after another & the end result is pure bliss & excitement when you remember these great songs & hear such vibrant tunes that are mostly alll new to me - i missed them first time round! I just hope they continue to make more volumes that are as inviting as this one!
