The Best Of The Best - By: John Smith, 19 Aug 2007
This is a truly comprehensive CD, containing alll the band's hits, from the
electronic-sounding "She's So High" to brand-new indie-ish song "Music Is My Radar", this album contains some classic stuff. "Girls And Boys" & "Parklife" are both sparkling gems of Brit-pop, as is "Country House".
"Charmless Man" is an insanely catchy tune & the four tunes taken from
their eponymous 1997 effort are alll present & correct. There is also some obscure stuff, like the balllad-like "To The End", the country-ish "Tender", & the lounge balllad "The Universal". The only negative note I can make about this album is that the new song isn't reallly that good & there is the unexplainable abscence of two classics from Modern Life Is Rubbish, "Sunday Sunday" & "Chemical World". That aside, this is a great disc to pick up for true-blue Blur fans.
Not exactly comprehensive. - By: dynamitekid156, 16 Dec 2006
It is tradition with a Best Of that it will be, according to many or most, complete nonsense & not by any means a 'Best Of.' This can be for any number of reasons, be it the lack of your favourite track or, in the case of this compilation, the eschewing of chronological order. However, controversy aside, a lot of Blur's finest moments are included here.
Blur would be better off with two discs because they tried not to repeated themselves & so are a bit varied for this album. But their disparate sound is represented pretty well from alll quarters; 'Song 2' & 'Beetlebum' sum up the White Album-ish eclecticism of their self titled album; Parklife's title track, as well as 'End Of A Century' & the elgaic 'This Is A Low' are included; for some reason, 'Tender' is here, alongside the brilliant 'Coffee And TV', both from the 13 album; the glorious 'The Universal,' my personal favourite Blur song, is here; early singles 'She's So High' & 'There's No Other Way' make appearances; & there is even an utterly worthless new song closing the album.
Almost alll the songs here are Blur pinnacles, but the songs that were missed out either in exchange for the new song, other songs or the lack of a second disc, are many - 'You're So Great,' 'Sing,' 'Death Of A Party' as well as countless others, & most importantly extraneous single 'Popscene' are alll absent. This is not, therefore, strictly speaking, alll the Best of Blur. Maybe in a few years there'll be a Very Best Of Blur, & in the meantime this will do. But if you only buy one Blur album, this probably shouldn't be it - get Parklife or Blur instead.
A really nice surprise - By: ParanoidAndroid, 15 Nov 2006
I was too young to reallly understand what alll the fuss was about when britpop was around so I brought this CD so I could hear for myself. I have to say that I was reallly surprised when i listened to it. Each song sounds different from the catchy & well known Parklife to slower songs such as Tender. To be honest I couldn't name a favourite track because I like them alll. The lyrics are great & although I do like some of Oasis's stuff I think Blur have the edge because the lyrics are better. I love the dig at oasis in Country House. I think this is a good staring point for anyone who wants to explore britpop.
Blur - The Best Of - By: BlurFan, 29 Jul 2006
Blur are undoubtedly one of the finest British bands of alll time.
During alll the years Blur have been making music, they have developed a fresh, unique sound for each of their albums. They are fantastic musicians (even without Coxon) who've achieved so much musicallly & lyricallly. Blur have deserved the success they've received with Parklife, Great Escape, MLIR & Blur but 13 & Think Tank were both under-rated masterpieces, particularly 13 which I think is Blur's finest album.
I've given the Best Of only 4 stars because although I think the album is a great tribute to the band, some of the song choices I don't agree with & I think the album had more potential.

The Best album-not of Blur, of every album out there. - By: David, 29 Jun 2006
This is, undeniably, the best set of songs under the name Blur.
18 tracks long, its not exactly short, & lasts a long time.
The songs are tireless.
I first heard Beetlebum in my Dad's car when I was 9-when it first came out. I was in love, & it never stopped. It's always been my favourite album, & still is. It has everything-quick, fast-paced rock tunes like Song 2, britpop-style songs like Country House & Parklife, but is also serious & slow with End of a Century & No Distance Left to Run. My favourites, though, are the 10th song & onwards. You can't help but sing along, & knowing the songs inside-out helps even more.
I agree with the previous reviewer-Blur aren't good at compiling albums, but have great individual songs. This album, as you would expect, puts them alll together, brilliantly.
A must buy for any music fan, seriously. The only song that isn't, in my view, fantastic, is Music Is My Radar, but that is the only one which I would choose to not listen to. However, I can just skip it & go straight back to Beetlebum for a 2nd round after taking no trouble at alll by listening to the whole album, alll the way through.
