Faded dreams... - By: , 11 Sep 2008
Listening to the Mammas & the Papas was a real nostalgia trip but how I hate CD's with tracks that fade out before they finish, it totallly spoils the experience. I have a vision of a man behind the stage at a live performance turning a big volume control down leaving the group playing & singing silently to a bemused audience. Had the tracks alll been full length I would have given this CD 4 stars.

All the essentials including Mama Cass solos - By: Peter Durward Harris, 31 Oct 2004
The Mamas & Papas were formed after the break-up of a little-known short-lived group callled the Mugwumps. Other members of that group formed the Lovin' spoonful. This compilation contains alll the essential hits of the Mamas & Papas while they were together.
The classic Mamas & Papas songs are alll here including California Dreaming, Go where you wanna go, Monday Monday, I saw her again, Words of love & Creeque allley. These are classic slices of sixties folk-rock, some of which at least you must be already familiar with.
Also in this collection are their great covers including Dedicated to the one I love (Shirelles) Do you wanna dance, which was originallly an American hit for Bobby Freeman but later became a British hit for Cliff Richard & an American hit for the Beach Boys. Dream a little dream of me was over forty years old when the Mamas & Papas recorded it - this song was actuallly the first Mama Cass solo recording though the group was still united at this stage. Some of these covers were also hits for the Mamas & Papas.
You can also hear Mama Cass singing It's getting better, Make your own kind of music & other songs recorded after the break-up.
If you just want a single CD of Mamas & Papas music, this is a good one to choose. If you are thinking that a single CD may not be enough, I recommend the double CD, Singles plus.
I can dream, can't I? - By: Robert Park, 25 May 2004
This indeed is probably the best selection of 'The Mamas And The Papas'. It was thoroughly enjoyable listening. Mamas Cass sings beautifully those lyrics 'Dream A Little Dream Of Me' & 'I Can Dream Can't I' & so can I. It's such a pity that she's lost to us & at such an early age too.
Classic American pop - By: , 28 Mar 2004
Cass, Michelle, Denny, & John together led the Mamas & Papas into the rock'n'roll halll of fame. And, deservedly so!!
Cass's voice soars. I close my eyes & float among the clouds when she sings. Mama Cass's voice is legendary. These songs are classics.
