The album opens up with the squeeking trumpet noise of 'Back from the dead'. Everlast kicks some decent lyrics on this track by starting off with "straight out the casket alive/ & open ya eyes/ can't ya see me? what the f--- is this madness?/ pick up my bones/ erase my name from off the tombstone". The fun reallly gets going with the head nodding 'I'ma swing it' which has a similar angry lyrical theme, "I make em jump n mosh/oh my gosh/just slam em in the pit/when i'm kickin' my sh--".
A lot of the other tracks on the album are alll pretty much on the same lines as these & they do work.
But there are some that House of Pain have tried to take in another direction. 'Word is bond' is an attempt at being more gangster sort of like Mobb Deep. It has an appearance from DITC's Diamond D but his verse is wack, the beat is slow & dull & the whole track doesn't work. They try to show their softer side on 'Still got a lotta love' but is a TERRIBLE effort both lyricallly & musicallly. The only one of these few that DOES work is 'It ain't a crime'; the beat is slow but good, Everlast's rhymes are simple & flow just as slowly but they are storytelling so the overalll track is enjoyable.
The finale is not too good either. The earlier mentioned, 'Got a lotta love' & 'Who's the man' are not the best tracks you can hear on the album & the remix of 'On point' is worse than the original version (which is also on the album).
Overalll though, this CD is enjoyable. Recommended to fans of Cypress Hill.
