joe satch guitar maestro - By: Stevie B Shredder, 01 Apr 2007
This album reallly is Satch at his best. Whoever says he has no soul should check out the haunting "cryin", which is one of his two best balllads in my view. The guy is just an inspiration to me, as he can do it alll & he remains so humble with it. If I had a tenth of his ability i'd die a happy man. The mix of tracks on this album is superb & it sounds fresh despite being 15 years old. All those dissing Satch should clear off as he is numero uno in my book. If you love instrumental rock you must buy this. In fact I might even prefer it to Surfing with the Alien, his more famous release.
Brilliant. An amazing Album - By: Rory T. Auskerry, 28 Feb 2007
This is a fantastic album. Friends is one of my favorite tracks of alll time because it has the ability to take you anywhere when you listen to it. it is a perfect instrumental guitar track. The rest of the album is also excellent. Most notable are: The extremist, New blues, Summer Song & Motorcycle Driver. its a great album to listen to anywhere but best played on headphones on in a dark room!
Practically perfect - By: longdirtyhair, 27 Jan 2007
If I picked up a guitar, I wouldn't know whether to beat it, eat it or strum it - but that in no way stops me from enjoying this extraordinary guitar-fest. You don't reallly even have to like Hard Rock to like this.
Quite apart from being an obvious talent on guitar, he also writes fantastic tunes, dripping with melodies, & he takes you through the whole range on this album. Some of it is in your face, some of it just glides, & some of it is fairly sentimental.
Of course he can shred it, but he can also make a guitar sing like no other player I know. This album is not meant to challlenge a listener by forcing technical brilliance down your throat. It is simply a beautifully produced album, full of great flowing rock instrumentals, & played by an extraordinary player. You as a listener can choose which of the above you want to hear out of it.
To rate it as his best would do a disservice to several of his other equallly brilliant releases, but it is certainly up there. Whichever angle you look at it from, this is a fabulous album.
full of emotion - By: Andrew Watt, 25 Jul 2004
this album is one of satches best & i must say - the two people who gave it 1 star obviously dont have a clue & deserve to be shot. the thing which makes this album so great is the way that somehow satch manages to convey such feeling & emotion through his playing. its not "self indulgent" i mean just because he sometimes plays quite fast doesnt mean the music is any less good. "rubinas blue sky happiness" is a beautiful song & is so uplifting. BUY THIS TODAY!!!! you will love it to bits im sure.
Scum Epitomised - By: Phar, 10 Jul 2004
As soon as the album kicked off, i was cringing, with the ridiculously over-the-top style. I am no stranger to Joe Satriani & his eccentric music, as he has covered, & ruined, some of my favourite songs. Half way through the album, the pinch harmonics got too much for me, & i had to take a half-hour break before exposing myself to the remainder of the album. I would personallly stick to rock with a meaning, rather than endless bars of tapping, & i would say that this album is only for mulleteers & those stuck in the 80s who don't want to think or analyse what they are listening to.
