It's not Christmas without Kenny - By: S. Gates, 03 Feb 2008
I think the main reason I love this album is because it was one of two that my Dad used to play in the car when I was little. Alas, the other tape is gone forever, but now that I've found Kenny on CD he will be sticking around for a long time. Being only a twenty-something people do find it a bit odd when I choose this album over Wham! & The Pogues, but I love the fact that Kenny covers some gentler, lovely tracks that are nice for those of us who aren't alll about the parties. After the chaos of Christmas shopping, this CD can' be beaten for chilling out on the bus ride home.
Kenny's first Christmas album - By: Peter Durward Harris, 25 Nov 2005
Kenny has recorded five Christmas albums – four solo & one with Dolly – but this was the first one he did. It includes an excellent mix of the familiar & the unfamiliar.

The most familiar songs here are White Christmas (the Bing Crosby classic), When a child is born (the song that gave Johnny Mathis his only UK number one hit), O holy night (one of the most popular carols) & My favorite things (originallly sung by Julie Andrews in the Sound of Music).

Before you get to them, there are some great songs, of which Carol of the bells is a cover but the others might alll be originals. Kenny must like Sweet little Jesus boy a lot – he re-recorded it for the Gift, one of his other Christmas albums, but I particularly like Kentucky homemade Christmas (about a poor family determined to have as good a time as they can) & Kids (about the people who enjoy Christmas most).

This was a great start to Kenny's career as a singer of Christmas music.
