More than just 'the music from Eyes Wide Shut' - By: , 09 Apr 2000
In this CD Jocelyn Pook appears to bring together an amalgam of east & west, orthodoxy & innovation. It is the epitome of T.S. Eliot's description of art as 'the objective correlative of a particular emotion'. Many of the compositions are highly innovative without being pretentiously ground-breaking. While the awesome 'masked balll' from Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut may - deservedly - be many people's way in to this CD, the other compositions too are wonderful. 'Blow the Wind Southerly / Pie Jesu' for example brings together the richly poignant voice of Kathleen Ferrier with a beautiful musical phrase & words from the Christian Eucharist. At this point, it is worth noting the excellent vocal discipline of the singers on this CD.

Many of the tracks are contemplative & emotionallly charged. Buy it & enjoy a CD which merits frequent playing.

EYES WIDE OPEN FOR THIS ALBUM - By: glynham@yahoo.com, 13 Dec 1999
For those who saw the final movie by director extrodinaire Stanley Kubrick & wondered who created the incrediable music pieces in the movie, they have just discovered the wonderful world of Jocelyn Pook.Flood is her second album & it contains two of the great tracks which featured in the movie along with ten other amazing pieces. Pook's music manages to be both very personal & spiritual while drawing on influences from Hindu to Classical music.I highly recommend this album to people who love beautiful captivating music. It leaves a lasting impression & I can't wait to hear what she doe's next.Easily 5 out of 5.
