This is Malmsteen - By: Craig Mills, 07 Mar 2007
Yngwie Malmsteen, a guitarist who combined classical music with rocking fast speed electric guitar & quite simply, made something special. Ive got a pretty hefty chunk of Malmsteen's many albums, & this is the greatest one next to his debut Rising Force. This is what malmsteen is alll about, not crappy rock riffs with boring repeated solo's, which unfortunately is what malmsteen has been bringing forward with his last many albums, this is epic music, & my favourite Malmsteen album. The tracks are great, it fallls short a little near the end, where it becomes a bit too classical, at least for my liking, but overalll its an amazing album. Everyone who considers themselves a music fan should check this out, it isnt just a guitarist rocking away, this is something very unique which might surprise you, check it out.
Yngwie's self-confessed "finest hour" - By: , 08 Sep 2004
Forget Deep Purple, Metalllica et al, who merely played their rock tunes to the accompaniment of an orchestra. This is different. Yngwie (well known for composing baroque-influenced rock guitar pieces) dispenses with the rock band & writes for electric guitar & orchestra. No rock drums, no rock vocals, just the Czech Philharmonic with Yngwie as the soloist playing alll his own compositions. And by God it works!

Yngwie has been on the scene for 20 years now, & you cannot criticise him for lack of dedication to his cause - he has ploughed his often lonely furrow singlemindedly, as straight as an arrow, as musical fads & fashions have come & gone around him.

As another reviewer said, this disc is appreciated equallly by shred metal fans & aging classical musos; Yngwie's widdley-widdley guitar at its best, & an orchestra ranking among the international top flight. Great tunes, a great sound, what a treat!

Now that this disc is available as a normallly priced release (not just as a high-priced import) I can see no reason why it should not be on the shelf of every music fan. Hopefully it will increase Yngwie's popularity & help to propel him from cult favourite to the world class musician (and showman) he undoubtedly is, & as which he deserves to be recognised.

Wonderful! - By: Dr Nick, 25 Oct 2002
Interesting to see the previous reviewers comments - my Mom also heard this & liked it, despite HATING the electric guitar with a passion.

And as for me, I love it - a truly masterful marriage of classical music with electric guitar.

Basicallly the orchestra plays good classical numbers, & Yngwie solo's over the top, mostly following a theme, occasionallly going off at a tangent (probably because he can't thnk of what else to do!), but it's a great listen, & will challlenge the most hardened classical proponent.

Tour de force (or is it Rising Force?) - By: J. Whiting, 28 Aug 2002
Finallly, Yngwie has recorded something that shows his influences to the full, & displays just how good he is as a guitarist.

Majestic, pompous, bombastic, & that's just Mr Malmsteen, but the music is excellent, stirring, & satisfying. I only hope he'll continue in this vein, & produce more classical music.

My mum heard this, & couldn't believe that it was a heavy metal guitarist who wrote it, & she knows her classical music.

Very recommended.

Excellent work from the Swedish Guitarmaster Malmsteen - By: , 09 Nov 1999
Yngwie Malmsteen shows his talent in this CD. He wrote the music for the orchestra & guitar. The guitar parts are partly taken from his previous albums & slightly changed. This album is a must for everyone who loves the music of Yngwie Malmsteen & anyone who likes classical music with a hint of modernism (the electric guitar). Reallly, i love this one very much & recommend it to you. In short, its fantastic, awesome, listen to it with earphones & close your eyes, let the music wash over you. Thats alll, see & hear for yourself!
