If you like Manu Chao, this CD is highly recommended!- By: , 07 Oct 2001 When you listen to Mano Negra's 1991 album "King of Bongo" you are quickly reminded of the French singer Manu Chao, & there is a simple reason for the similarity, namely that Manu Chao was also singer in this multi-cultural band. Despite the similarities there are of course some differences: Manu Chao concentrates on more or less carribbean sounds whereas Mano Negra was influenced by rock & punkrock. It is very interesting to listen to the second title on the CD, "King of Bongo", since its lyrics & melody are the same as in Manu Chao's later worldwide (at least European) hit "Bongo Bong" from his 1998 "Clandestino" album. However, the sound is completely different. The songs on this CD are partly sung in English & partly in French. If you like Manu Chao & if you are not afraid of some "heavier" sounds you should listen to this CD, too.
