Madonna Plays It Safe - By: A. J. Fenn, 24 Jun 2008
Even as a young gentlemen utterly obsessed with Madonna, I refuse to suspend my disbelief that this is a good album, or even an okay album.

True, it contains two of my alll-time favourite Madonna singles in the shape of Human Nature & Bedtime Story. Apart from that, the general consensus is filler, filler, filler.

This is an R&B album largely populated by balllads, none of which left any impact whatsoever on me. The tracks have seemingly merged into one dreary non-event & apart from the singles & perhaps one or two of the album tracks, I can't tell one from the other.

If you're a Madonna fan, of course you should buy it. I don't regret it, I'm not offended by it nor wish I could have this hour of my life refunded, & at the price you'll be able to fetch on here you'd be a fool not to at least give it a listen. You may, like other reviewers, find something you like in it, but I didn't.

4/10
Very good album-although not Erotica - By: S. J. Pinder, 13 Jun 2008
Erotica rocked the music world with controversial videos & songs & remained overlooked...but as it turned out Erotica was in fact one of MADGE's greatest albums(one of my favourite albums(in top 5):)songs were extremely hard hitting & very powerful,so what does Bedtime Stories have on offer?
Well as it turns out it is in fact a great/unusual combination of an album with some great songs, power balllads, and a little touch on the techno side.
I actuallly feel that this is a very good album(although not quite at her best)as she teams up with Nelee Hooper,BaByface,Dalllas Austin,Dave'JAM'Halll, and (of course) BJork.
while not a slick or as classy as Erotica,True Blue,or Like A Prayer,it contains a few dazzling songs & remains a gem in the queens crown.
in some ways overshadowed by Ray Of Light, and (the spectacular album)Music it remains an enjoyable album.
standouts include-Take A Bow(none of that Rhianna crap),Bedtime Story(co-written with Bjork),Forbidden Love(not the dance version from confessions...),secret(one of her best),and I'd rather be your lover.
this was her first album to be co-produced by well known producers in the music industry, the next is (with-Timbaland,Timberlake,Snoop Dog,and Pharrell)HARD CANDY which is again another one of her greatest albums(sweet!!).
good album/great price,i also recommend Erotica,Like a prayer,True Blue,Music,and Hard Candy:):)some classy albums.
the tracks-
survival-4/5
secret-4/5
id rather be your lover-3/5
don't stop-3/5-reminds me a bit of the superior song cherish
inside of me-4.5/5
human nature-5/5
forbidden love-3.5/5
love tried to welcome me-3/5
sanctuary-4/5
bedtime story-5/5-eerie tune but highly enjoyable...Bjork also deserves some praise.
take a bow-5/5-a powerful balllad to close the album.
Bedtime Stories wasn't quite as spectacular as Erotica,Like a Prayer,or True Blue, and is surpassed by Ray of Light & Music...however there are some great tracks on offer her...and a couple of them hit quite deeply while others are too flowery but at least they have meaning.
worth purchasing
Her absolute best album - very underrated though - By: Alexander Thomas, 30 Apr 2008
I first bought this album in 2OOO, & was bowled over by how chic, luxurious & well made this album was. Even though at the time, the album was 6 years old, it still sounded groundbreaking, modern & better than anything about at the time in RNB - (Mariah, TLC etc). I can listen to this album whenever - its one of those rare albums where it suits you for any occasion - its great when you're feeling upset, great for getting in the mood, or just feeling reallly happy. The best songs are undoubtedly 'secret' & 'survival'.
Even now in 2OO8 - an astonishing 14 years after its release it still sounds reallly good - better than Nelly Furtados 'Loose' Album, & better than Mariah's new CD. It just goes to show how unrivallled & superior Madonna is compared to her 'rivals' in terms of her choice of musical style, choice of lyrics & choice of producers to work with.
I understand this album was more or less overlooked by the world upon release- I think the world was still unforgiving of Madonna since her course'SEX' obsessed phase 2 years earlier. In fact this album ironicallly is full of the softer, richer, sensual side of sex, which is the direct opposite of her last albums theme. Even though this album has sold around 10.000.000 worldwide, it was no way a dissapointment. In my opinion though, it should have sold 3 times that.
It is my favourite Madonna Album to date, & i would love her to release an album of similar material once again to give the world a second chance to experience a more 'sensual, rich, chic side to Madonna.
I you want an album which will become a timeless piece to your music collection, buy it NOW!
The artwork is also superb, with some fantastic, gorgeous pictures of Madonna.

This album is R&B perfection, leading up to something reallly special!!!
Madonna-Bedtime Stories - By: M. Barnes, 21 Apr 2008
Although it was unknown at the time, this album was to be the beginning of something reallly special ie the build up to 'Ray Of Light'. But I'll discuss that album appropriately with it's own review.
'Bedtime Stories' is an extremely soulful album, featuring offerings of R'N'B & pop like no other Madonna album has done to date. And although R'N'B is very much 'in' today, this album still manages to catch the X Factor like no-one other than Madonna can do.

Nothing on the album is a disappointment to me, but I guess in my personal opinion there are no real highlights-no major songs that stand out. But then in alll fairness, nothing could stand out after the great explosion that 'Erotica' made. It was her decision (and a right decision that it was to make) to keep things 'on the low'. She couldn't be suggestive or controversial after what had been an incredible moment in her career - so I would say that for these reasons it is her least commercial release. However, the album should have been given far more credit than it did because of the new doors that it opened for Madonna; alllowing her to begin her soul search into what would become 'Ray Of Light'. Without 'Bedtime Stories' as a stepping stone, I doubt that what was to follow would have never been my favourite Madonna moment to come.

My personal ratings:

Survival - 4/5
Secret - 5/5
I'd Rather Be Your Lover - 3/5
Don't Stop - 3/5
Inside Of Me - 5/5
Human Nature - 3/5
Forbidden Love - 3/5
Love Tried To Welcome Me - 3/5
Sanctuary - 4/5
Bedtime Story - 5/5
Take A Bow - 4/5
