time for a remaster! - By: plastikpakora, 16 May 2008
I'm amazed this classic has been untouched since its initial cd release in the 80's. Technology has moved on since then, & we deserve a crystal clear version, so we can hear JT's sublime singing & picking in the way it was intended to be heard!
Great easy listening - By: Neil Butler, 07 Feb 2008
James Taylor's Sweet Baby James is one of those albums you can stick on & leave in the background barely noticing it, but enjoying it alll the same. There are some wonderful tracks on here like Steamroller Blues & Fire & Rain. It's alll easy to listen to & inoffensive. Music done simply & extremely well.
Depends what you like - By: , 30 Sep 2003
This review is directd to first time buyers of James Taylor.
Well whats it like?
Good question! Its good I suppose. Infact it is very good. It is kind to the listener & it doesnt depress the listener into a degrading pile of mess. Quite the opposite reallly. The bluesy feel to it loosens up the joints & you tend to get the urge to tap your foot on the ground with the distinct catchy beat.
I think this album maintains a firm acoustic vibe to it which is understandeble especiallly as James Taylor on the guitar is like Father & Son. Which is which I havent discovered yet.

In a nut shell this album plays along happily in the background, in the foreground, & still seems to get inside you. IT WAKES YOU UP. But in a nice way.

Its kinda Funky!
An 'enjoyable' album

Sweet ! - By: Arthur Dooley, 18 Sep 2003
What can you say about the original honey toned bedsit troubadour whose romantic vinyl albums of the early 70's garnered a legion of admirers & imitators ?
Despite the current vogue to dismiss those of a romantic bent as musicallly irrelevent in today's hard-nosed times,'Sweet Baby James' still stands head & shoulders above most of todays' bland releases by its sheer quality of composure & delivery.
The title track & the magnificent 'Fire & Rain' still stand out as 'great' songs which have more than stood the test of time.
A great reminder of those patchouli days & Hirondelle nights !
The original, and still one of his best - By: Nicholas Tier, 09 May 2002
Okay, so it's not actuallly the original; that goes to the weird "Original Flying Machine" album on Apple Records, but this is definitely wonderful, vintage JT. From start to finish, there are sublime moments, as well as things that still surprise you after repeated listening. Any album with Sweet Baby James & Fire & Rain on it has to be a classic, but the other tracks stand proudly alongside them. 5 stars; no question.
