Spider-Man Homecoming

You would think that the third version of a cinematic Spider-Man in the last ten years would signal a sharp decline in quality for the web-slinger. After all, the last decade hasn't been kind to Marvel Comics most popular hero. Sam Rami's Spiderman 3 burned the Tobey McGuire franchise to the ground, and the Andrew Garfield starring Amazing Spiderman films were too busy trying to set up a cinematic universe and forgot to make the films any good. So, what can Homecoming bring to the table? Can it offer a fresh new version of Peter Parker and his superpowered alter-ego? You bet it can.

Spider-Man Homecoming Review

Making his debut in Captain America: Civil War, Tom Holland's Spiderman was a breath of fresh air that the character was crying out for. Homecoming continues this as Spidey is finally allowed to be part of the MCU, meaning that the types of stories that this new franchise can tell has blown wide open.

Despite Homecoming being set during Peter's high school years, director Jon Watts finally makes this setting seem crucial to the development of Peter. Unlike Tobey McGuire's Spiderman, who constantly thought his powers were a curse, Holland's Parker loves being Spiderman, with much of the film dealing with the duality of being both a teenager, and a superhero who has a lot to learn about life.

To help him with this is Tony Stark, played once again by Robert Downey Jr, who plays the mentor role with a lot of style and is featured just enough not to take over the film. On villain duties is Michael Keaton as the Vulture, who is one of the MCU's better bad guys mainly because he's played by Michael Keaton.

Spiderman homecoming is easily the best Spiderman film since Spiderman 2 set the bar so high, and with his next stop being Infinity War, it's a great time to be a Marvel fan.
