Arrow Season 5

The fifth season of Arrow not only brings to a close Oliver Queen's 10-year journey from cast-away to costumed hero, it also marks the show's 100th episode. After two years battling magic and mysticism in the form of Damien Dahrk and the League of Assassin's, season five brings Arrow back to the street level crime fighting, and grounded approach that fans fell in love with in the first place. Team Arrow is still a big part of the universe it helped create, with The Flash, the Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl all taking part in a three-part crossover in which the heroes battle villains from another world, but overall Arrow's fifth year is about going back to the basics.

Arrow Season 5 Review

After defeating Damien Dahrk Team Arrow is disbanded. Oliver and Felicity are still clearing up the streets, but with Thea and Diggle quitting, and the tragic death of Laurel, The Green Arrow needs a new team. Enter Wild Dog, Mr Fantastic, and a new Black Canary, all of whom Oliver needs to train to defend Star City.

Except that won't be so easy with new villain Prometheus entering the fray. One thing Arrow has never lacked is compelling villains, Malcolm Merlyn, and Slade Wilson being the most memorable, and Prometheus more than proves himself as a worthy adversary to Oliver. It's through Oliver's battles with this supervillain that he comes to question and investigate the legacy of his heroism: whether he has made a difference, or made things worse. This is further explored in the flashbacks that chart Oliver's journey from being stranded on the island to coming home as a walking weapon.

Season five is a true return to form for Arrow, showing that it's not just one of the best superhero shows on television, it's also one of the most ambitious.
