Buying films on DVD or blu-ray can be pretty much as cheap (and often cheaper) than buying online, digital copies and are much more satisfying to own and easier to wrap as presents! Below we list some of the more recent/upcoming titles that you may want to buy, fresh from the cinema! Alternatively, have a look at our page listing some of the popular film releases from 2016.

Upcoming Film DVD Releases

8th November, 2016 - We're fast approaching Christmas so you can be sure that there are some huge DVDs and blu-rays about to be released, as they make great presents! For kids you can choose from the Finding Dory DVD, The Secret Life of Pets DVD, The BFG DVD, the Pete's Dragon DVD, the Swallows And Amazons DVD or the Ice Age: Collission Course DVD. There's also lots of choice for older kids (and young adults!), such as the Suicide Squad DVD, Star Trek Beyond DVD, Independence Day: Resurgence DVD or Ghostbusters DVD. If you're looking for a film aimed more at adults then try the Jason Bourne DVD, Bridget Jones's Baby DVD, Absolutely Fabulous DVD or The Beatles DVD.

29th July, 2016 - Due for release on 1st September is the Captain America Civil War DVD. Also, the My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 DVD is released in a few days. Other August releases include The Jungle Book DVD, The Huntsman Winter's War DVD and the Eddie The Eagle DVD. The Angry Birds DVD is released in September.

10th June, 2016 - One of the hottest films due to be released in July is the Zootropolis DVD, having already made over $1 billion at the box-office and still going! The London Has Fallen DVD, starring Gerrard Butler, is also released in July. The 13 Hours DVD, directed by Michael Bay (Transformers) is released in a few days. If you've been following the Divergent series of films then you'll want the Allegient DVD when it's released in July. Looking further ahead, The Huntsman: Winter's War DVD is released in August.

1st May, 2016 - The most hotly anticipated film release is the Deadpool DVD - a superhero definitely not for small children! Tarantino's Hateful Eight DVD is due out soon, as is Leonardo DiCaprio's Oscar-winning The Revenant DVD. Daddy's Home is about to be released, too, starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg as competitve dad and step-dad to two children. You can see Brie Larason's Oscar-winning performance when the Room DVD is released in a week or so. A big upcoming release is also the Batman v Superman DVD - Dawn of Justice. The Kung Fu Panda 3 DVD is one I'm looking forward to, too!

Recently Released Films on DVD

29th July, 2016 - Recently released films include the blockbuster Batman v Superman DVD, Zootropolis DVD and London Has Fallen DVD.

10th June, 2016 - The Revenant is the biggest recent DVD release, starring Leonardo DiCaprio in his Oscar-winning performance. The Spotlight DVD, starring Michael Keaton, released a couple of weeks ago is also popular. If you like Jack Black, or horror, then the Goosebumps DVD is worth a look. For an all-star cast look no further than the The Big Short DVD, which stars Brad Pitt, Christian Bale, Selena Gomex AND Steve Carell! Sylvester Stalone's Rocky sequel was released in May - check out the Creed DVD here. Other notable recent releases include The Danish Girl DVD and The Peanuts Movie.

1st May, 2016 - The Force Awakens DVD is easily the biggest seller currently (see other Star Wars DVD options) - finally a sequel Star Wars fans can love, even if it's got a lot of similarities with earlier films! If you're a fan of Maggie Smith or Alan Bennet then you should love the The Lady In The Van DVD. Alternatively, if you like your superheroes, you could try the Ant Man DVD. Despite being released months ago, the Spectre DVD is still doing well, as is the Age Of Ultron DVD, Guardians Of The Galaxy DVD, Minions DVD and Jurassic World DVD. Several big films from a couple of months ago are still going strong, such as The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2, Bridge of Spies DVD (Starring Tom Hanks), Brooklyn DVD and The Good Dinosaur DVD. We recently enjoyed the Hotel Transylvania 2 DVD too - a great family film!

Movie Box Sets

There are too many movie franchises with box sets out to recommend them all, but we'll list a few of the most popular here. Firstly, a Star Wars DVD box set is a must for sci-fi fans, whether you want the original films or the prequels - or maybe you'd prefer a Star Trek DVD instead? Despite finishing years ago, sales of the Harry Potter DVD are still going strong. Now Jennifer Lawrence has finished the series you can pick up the complete Hunger Games DVD box set, too. If you like your Middle-Earth films then a Lord of the Rings DVD set or Hobbit DVD box set won't go amiss. For the younger audience, a Toy Story DVD continues to be popular, as is the High School Musical DVD collection.

If you like your superheroes then an Iron Man DVD, Captain Americal DVD, Avengers DVD or Dark Knight DVD would be a good start.

For a bit of nostalgia, why not try an Indiana Jones DVD, Jaws DVD, Back to the Future DVD, Jurassic Park DVD or even a Carry On box set? Or if you like Vampires there's the Twilight DVD. Don't forget a James Bond DVD - you can't get enough 007! A Pirates of the Caribbean DVD is also good, as is The Matrix DVD. Or why not go even further back - a Laurel and Hardy DVD is certainly a classic! Otherwise, why not try a Fast & Furious DVD or Bourne DVD. Or look through our full list of movie box sets

Recommended TV Series Box Sets

Box sets of TV series are big sellers - every episode on a nice, shiny DVD or blu-ray and no adverts! Even if you have Netflix or one of the other streaming services you'll still have shows to buy that they don't show or that you just want to own. I've listed some of the more popular ones below to give you some ideas:

UK TV Box Sets

Where to start?! Well, there have been some very high-quality dramas recently and I can recommend a Happy Valley DVD, Line Of Duty DVD or The Night Manager DVD box set. The Hollow Crown DVD is also highly rated and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Downton Abbey DVD. Have a look at a Peaky Blinders DVD too, and a Outlander DVD. The latest Grantchester DVD is doing well, as is the Scott & Bailey DVD box set starring Suranne Jones and Lesley Sharp. The Poldark DVD continues to sell well a year on from release. The latest Endeavour DVD, starring Shaun Evans, is great for fans of detective shows, as is the Death In Paradise DVD or Broadchurch. If you're a fan of Brenda Blethyn then you'll want a Vera DVD. I've also got to mention the Call the Midwife DVDs, Wolf Hall DVD and Lewis DVD. Check out our full list of UK TV series

International TV Box Sets

There's no shortage of high-quality US TV box sets, plus some notable shows and dramas from elsewhere. My recommendation would be a Breaking Bad DVD, and if you like that you may like to try the spin-off by buying a Better Call Saul DVD. The most popular, though, will be a Game Of Thrones DVD, or maybe in blu-ray format. The Agent Carter DVD is popular with fans of Marvel, as is an Agents of SHIELD DVD. If you like grittier dramas you could try a Sons Of Anarchy DVD, following a gang of US bikers. If you have a lot of time to spare you could try a Supernatural DVD, which there are 10 seasons of! Other recommendations include a House of Cards DVD (starring Kevin Spacey), The Walking Dead DVD or a Fear The Walking Dead DVD, The Big Bang Theory DVD or a Pretty Little Liars DVD. The Modern Family DVD is still doing well, as is the Vikings DVD, Suits DVD, Charmed DVD and the Orange Is The New Black DVD. Check out our full list of International TV series

Classic UK Comedy

If you like classic UK comedy then a BlackAdder DVD, Fawlty Towers DVD or Dad's Army DVD are certainly worth a look - and a must-have is an Only Fools And Horses DVD. Or why not an Are You Being Served DVD, Gavin and Stacey DVD, Goodnight Sweetheart DVD or It Aint Half Hot Mum DVD? Or why not a vintage Last Of The Summer Wine DVD, where there are around 30 season to choose from! Or some anarchic comedy with a Monty Python DVD or a The Young Ones DVD, or even maybe some political satire with a Yes Minister DVD?
